Andrew McCabe Ordered Obstruction Probe on Trump to Preserve Russia Investigation

Andrew McCabe, the former FBI Deputy Director, says he ordered an investigation to find out if President Donald Trump obstructed justice by firing James Comey simply to preserve the ongoing Russian collusion probe, just in case anyone tried to end it.

“I wanted to make sure that our case was on solid ground and if somebody came in behind me and closed it and tried to walk away from it, they would not be able to do that without creating a record of why they made that decision,” McCabe said on “CBS This Morning” Thursday.

Deep state wanted to remove Trump from office?

McCabe also said that after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, there were discussions at the Justice Department about recruiting Cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove the President from office.

“I met with the team investigating the Russia cases and I asked the team to go back and conduct an assessment to determine where are we with these efforts and what steps do we need to take going forward,” McCabe said Thursday on CBS. “I was very concerned that I was able to put the Russia case on absolutely solid ground in an indelible fashion that, were I removed quickly or reassigned or fired, that the case could not be closed or vanish in the night without a trace,”

McCabe made these revelations while promoting his forthcoming book, “The Threat: How the FBI Protects America in the Age of Terror and Trump.”

The White House told CBS News that McCabe’s investigation was “completely baseless.” President Trump called McCabe a “disgrace” on Twitter Thursday, and accused him of political bias during his time at the FBI.

Based on McCabe’s admission that he ordered an obstruction probe only to preserve the overall Russia investigation, doesn’t the President have a point? Is this not the definition of “deep state?”

Is this kind of pointless and vindictive meddling with democratically elected leaders not the antithesis of how our system is supposed to work?
