Americans Rank Last Among 46 Countries In Trust For The Media

A new survey from the Reuters Institute shows Americans rank dead last among 46 countries in the level of trust they have for the media.

A new survey from the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford shows Americans rank dead last among 46 countries in the level of trust they have for the media.

“The United States ranks last in media trust — at 29% — among 92,000 news consumers surveyed in 46 countries,” Poynter reports.

This should surprise exactly no one, given the state of our news media, which acts as a propaganda wing.

That percentage falls significantly below the average of the other countries, which sits at 44% according to the survey, and well below Finland which ranks at the top with 65% of its citizens who trust the media.

The United States also ranks pretty low with just 13% indicating they trust social media for their news.

The survey notes that media outlets – both print and television – have been devastated by the disappearance of the “Trump bump.”

“Online traffic to the New York Times and Washington Post in February 2021 fell sharply,” the study finds, while “by mid-March, CNN and MSNBC lost 45% and 26% of their prime-time audiences respectively.”

Americans Don’t Trust The Mainstream Media

Diving a little deeper into the numbers demonstrates a few key factors in why Americans distrust their media.

First, the obvious liberal media bias is reflected in the numbers.

“In the US, 75% of those on the right think they are covered unfairly, versus 16% that think they are covered fairly,” the report reads.

By contrast, “more people on the left think that their political views are covered fairly rather than unfairly (51% versus 34%).”

And why wouldn’t they think that? Their views are reflected on CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS News, NBC News, C-Span, and every major newspaper in America.

Another data point that sticks out – While the media has been portraying America as fundamentally racist and unfair to minorities, there is this:

This year’s report “exposes worrying inequalities in both consumption and trust – with the young, women, people from ethnic minorities, and political partisans often feeling less fairly represented by the media.”

“These findings will give added urgency to those who are arguing for more diverse and inclusive newsrooms,” the survey finds.

Turns out newsrooms who continually hammer the ‘white supremacy’ angle might want to start looking within.

No Honesty, No Ethics

The media trust survey isn’t the first to indicate that the field of journalism in the United States is dying a painful death.

A Gallup poll this past December asked Americans to rank the honesty and ethics of different professions, and they promptly placed journalists at the bottom with car salesmen.

That seems like an insult to car salesmen, who are veritable fonts of honesty and ethical behavior compared to, say, MSNBC.

Media bias was also noticeably present in the Gallup poll as well. It showed a mere 5 percent of Republicans rate the ethics and honesty of journalists highly, while nearly half – 48 percent of Democrats – give them high marks.

And why would there be trust when the mainstream media is clearly a corrupt and biased institution?

A member of the New York Times editorial board recently slammed Trump supporters for the sin of flying “dozens of American flags.”

The revolving door of pundits who are joining the Biden White House is spinning out of control, the most recent example involving Thomas Nides, husband of CNN senior vice president of newsgathering Virginia Moseley, being nominated as ambassador to Israel.

CNN has also been involved in numerous embarrassing headlines of late, not the least of which have been cratering ratings and their leading media critic being absolutely destroyed by the popular podcast host, Joe Rogan.

CNN reporter Jim Acosta recently admitted that journalists are suffering from “post-Trump stress disorder.”

This survey seems to indicate they’re also getting hammered with ‘post-trust’ issues here in America.
