Former Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz has been a man of the Left his entire life – but today’s liberals are getting too crazy even for him.
Despite his overwhelmingly liberal beliefs, it’s the “social justice” crazies who have been a major turn off for him. As a Jewish man, Dershowitz is one of the few people on the Left who acknowledges the realities of radical Islam, and the threat that those who share his ideological tilt pose to the state of Israel. He has joined Donald Trump in fiercely criticizing the Iran nuclear deal.
Dershowitz even threatened to leave the Democratic Party in the event that Keith Ellison was picked as the DNC’s next chair (Tom Perez ended up getting the job). It is something of a positive sign (for sanity) when the Left has gone so far off the rails that even a card-carrying, lifelong liberal like Dershowitz threatened to jump ship.
And off the rails they have indeed gone. As the liberal media continues to freak out at Trump for supposedly not denouncing the white supremacists who rallied in Charlottesville last week, we’ve heard nothing about the violence that has been coming from the Left since Trump declared his candidacy. According to the College Fix, “Since January of 2016 — the period in which the anti-Trump ‘resistance’ movement formed — Americans are fifty-one times more likely to be killed by a radical Islamic terrorist, and thirteen times more likely to be killed by a left-wing terrorist, than by a right-wing terrorist. That’s 51:1, and 13:1, respectively.”
And that ignores all the Starbucks storefronts the Antifa kooks have bashed in, and all the cop cars they’ve set on fire. What they do isn’t “activism,” it’s destruction, and even Dershowitz is blasting them as “radical anti-American, anti-free market, communists.”
Appearing on Fox and Friends, Dershowitz said: Remember that president Roosevelt, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, put 110,000 Japanese Americans into detention centers; that President Lowell of Harvard imposed anti-Jewish quotas, that discrimination against women was rampant. Once you start rewriting history of African-Americans in this country, you have to start rewriting history of discrimination against many, many other groups.
Look, we’re both a nation of immigrants and a nation of discrimination against immigrants. That’s an important history for us to remember. And the other important thing is do not glorify the violent people who are now tearing down the statues.
Many of these people — not all of them — many of these people are trying to tear down America. Antifa is a radical anti-American, anti-free market, communist, socialist, hard, hard-left censorial organization that tries to stop speakers on campuses from speaking. They use violence, and just because they’re opposed to fascism and to some of these monuments shouldn’t make them heroes of the liberals.

This comes not long after another notable leftist, Noam Chomsky, attacked Antifa as a “major gift to the right.” Here’s what he said about the thuggish group: “What they do is often wrong in principle – like blocking talks – and [the movement] is generally self-destructive.”
Chomskey also acknowledged what I’ve noticed for years: That those most likely to call for political violence are also the least likely to survive it.
He added: “When confrontation shifts to the arena of violence, it’s the toughest and most brutal who win – and we know who that is.”
