South Bend, Indiana mayor and 2020 candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination, Pete Buttigieg, said Thursday that with abortion rights, America isn’t “free.” He was commenting on the new abortion restrictions passed in Alabama on Wednesday and signed by Governor Kay Ivey.
“I must say that I don’t think that you are free in this country if your reproductive health can be criminalized by government,” Buttigieg said.
Gov. Ivey said when signing the law, “To the bill’s many supporters, this legislation stands as a powerful testament to Alabamians’ deeply held belief that every life is precious and that every life is a sacred gift from God.
Buttigieg made his criticisms during a speech in Chicago and said that the unborn should not be protected by the government.

“This is not an easy choice for anyone to face, and I would be loath to tell anybody facing that situation what the right thing to do is, but that’s exactly the point: I’m a government official. I don’t view myself as belonging in that conversation,” he said, referring to pregnant women and their choice of whether or not to have an abortion.
“To see in Alabama that if someone is raped and she seeks an abortion, the doctor who treats her will be penalized with a longer term than her rapist makes me question whether the discussion about freedom in this country has gone off the rails,” Buttigieg finished.
If America isn’t “free” without unrestricted abortions, as Buttigieg and those of like mind seem to prefer, are we free in a country that snuffs out the life of the most defenseless among us?
Who will speak up for them? Who will speak up for the voiceless? Who will insist that they are human beings with intrinsic worth, despite the Left’s every effort to dehumanize them?
“Mayor Pete” thinks we won’t be free without unlimited abortions. The youngest demographic in this country – the unborn – certainly wouldn’t be free under a President Buttigieg.
