Momentum seems to indicate that the heralded ‘blue wave’ is starting to look more and more like an ‘orange crush’ when the midterm elections hit in 2018. (RELATED: RNC Continues To Haul In Record Amount of Money In 2018).
Sure, the daily presidential tracking poll these days has President Trump consistently ahead of Barack Obama at this point in his presidency, but it’s not just a popularity contest for voters.
It’s about accomplishments. And the more the American people see – tangible, palpable results – the more likely they are to flip the momentum from an obstructionist Democrat Party to a Republican Party that is actually doing something for the little guy.
Maybe there isn’t a blue wave coming in November after all. Maybe we’re watching Democrats about to drown in a sea of Trump accomplishments. (RELATED: Generic Republicans Polling Above Democrats for 2018 Midterms).
“The Democrats blue wave may be drowned out by the all of Trump’s achievements this coming midterm election,” writes political cartoonist A.F. Branco.
Indeed, RealClearPolitics senior elections analyst Sean Trende recently indicated that the famed ‘blue wave’ may be more wishful thinking than anything else.
“I think we’ve gone from the Democrats being the favorite to retake the House to something of a dead heat,” Trende said.
Amazing.
For the entirety of Trump’s term in office, Democrats have been operating under the assumption that they were going to take back the House and Senate, and their fantasy of impeaching the President would become a reality.
Trump spoke to Republicans at a retreat in February, lauding their efforts and accomplishments. He claimed his first year in office was “one of the greatest years in the history of politics, in the history of our country, for a party, what we’ve done and what we’ve accomplished.”

What exactly is killing the blue wave? As was once famously stated – It’s the economy, stupid. And Trump’s economy seems to be holding off Democrat momentum in a major way.
Following polls that show record levels of confidence in the job market, Americans are more optimistic than ever about the ability to get a job, work hard and succeed in America today.
According to Rasmussen, 68 percent of Americans now think it possible that, if somebody in our country wants to get a job, they can.
Remarkable.
“I think if you looked six months ago, you would say it was doomsday for the Republicans with the Republican down in the 30s, showing a double-digit lead for Democrats,” Trende said. “But that’s just not the world we’re in today.”
“I think we’ve gone from Democrats being heavy favorites to take the House to something of a dead heat and maybe a thumb on the scale for the Republicans.”
In other words, they’re about to get hit with a Trump wave.
