Poll: Was Trump Right to Stop the White House from Releasing a Statement on John McCain’s Death?

Senator John McCain departed this life this past weekend. After a long and storied career, McCain finally passed away at his Arizona home. (RELATED: McCain Dies At Age 81.)

The news media has been filled with glowing tributes to the former presidential candidate. Former President Barack Obama, who bested McCain in the 2008 presidential contest, posted a tribute to his departed rival on Twitter:

President Trump also said some kind words to the McCain family:

There has been a report circulating, however, that President Trump refused to authorize a message from the White House paying tribute to McCain.

Normally, such a story could be seen as an exaggeration, a rumor-filled fantasy spread by the media. But McCain and Trump have had a very contentious relationship. It’s not far-fetched to assume the report could be real. (RELATED: Trump Slams McCain for Obamacare Vote: He Cost Our Country A Lot.)

If so, I think it’s sad to see. Personally, I say give the man his due. McCain dedicated many years of service to his country, both in war and in Congress. In times like these, you let bygones be bygones.

But, sometimes, that’s not Trump’s way.

  1. Do we forget this man was paid very well during his political career, way more then most of us that have returned from a war with the injuries sustained during his POW captivity. Granted he suffered much and none of us can imagine the extent of his injuries both mental and physical, even to the extent that they may have played a large in his performance of his duties. Those duties that required he support the best interests of the American people which he failed miserable. One act would have made him a hero a single vote to remove and replace Obamacare, but he let his hate for Donald Trump out way his civic duty and it has cost the Tax payers millions if not more. This is the same obstructive nature the Democrats and the negative media exhibit on a daily basis, because their hate towards President Trump and his success and the success of the Republican party has driven them crazy. They no longer have this country or its American citizen’s interests at heart or even within their scope of view. For them its get ride of President Trump and anyone else that does not adhere to their Global Progressive train of thought. A thought process that see themselves above the law and a sick, corrupt, perverted law unto themselves. I as a tax paying, military vet, and a Christian will never accept or buy into. God gave you a brain for a reason open your eye’s and use it, before its to late. Don’t be one that will always regret your decision come November vote Republican and keep America a place to be proud of, and a safe place to live. God Bless the wise.

  2. John McCain was a TRAITOR, a LIAR and a Backstabber and he worked against President Trump every chance he got . He was no HERO either. McCain does not deserve any kind words whatsoever.

    1. McCain was no war hero. According to one source, McCain’s collaboration may have had very real consequences. Retired Army Colonel Earl Hopper, a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam, contends that the information that McCain divulged classified information North Vietnam used to hone their air defense system…McCain told his North Vietnamese captors, “highly classified information, the most important of which was the package routes, which were routes used to bomb North Vietnam. He gave in detail the altitude they were flying, the direction, if they made a turn… he gave them what primary targets the United States was interested in.” Hopper contends that the information McCain provided allowed the North Vietnamese to adjust their air-defenses. As result, Hopper claims, the US lost sixty percent more aircraft and in 1968, “called off the bombing of North Vietnam, because of the information McCain had given to them.”
‘When John McCain was my captive‘: interview with former head of Vietnamese prison ‘Hanoi Hilton’ – BBC 6/23/08
EXCERPT: “But I can confirm to you that we never tortured him. We never tortured any prisoners.” Mr Duyet reminisces instead about how he often summoned the future US presidential candidate to his private office for informal chats….So is Mr Duyet implying that that Senator McCain lied about his treatment at the Hanoi Hilton? “He did not tell the truth,” he says. “But I can somehow sympathise with him. He lies to American voters in order to get their support for his presidential election.”

  3. With McCain stating that he wanted nothing from President Trump, it is more respectful to leave it alone. He already extended his condolences to the family, anything more would be disingenuous. Besides, we already know that anything that the President does, either way will be criticized by the Left & the MSM.

    1. John McCain was a mean, ill tempered, viciously vindictive Tyrant who was savagely rude, overbearing & vengeful to people who disagreed with him. He was a loathsom, self aggrandizing liar as well. He sold out his country.

  4. I do not believe it’s right to appoint a spouse to fill the vacancy of a departed Senator or Representative. That’s what’s wrong with “the swamp” system. A spouse was not elected by the people.

  5. First of all: FTA: “There has been a report circulating, however, that President Trump refused to authorize a message from the White House paying tribute to McCain.”

I really don’t think that a “report circulating” holds water. Unless there’s a name attached to the statement – I choose to ignore it.

  6. Independent American you have NO clue what it is to be a leader. McCain never respected Our President or this country and President Trump is our Leader, from what I understand McCain did America dirt and McCain hurt America and many Americans know this, you know the facts but choose to disregard the truth

    1. Agree! There are politicians who will go overboard showering accolades to gain points over McCain’s supporters. President Trump’s offer of sympathy to the widow and to his family is just right because that’s what he believes in. Words means nothing if it is exaggerated.
