Senator John McCain departed this life this past weekend. After a long and storied career, McCain finally passed away at his Arizona home. (RELATED: McCain Dies At Age 81.)
The news media has been filled with glowing tributes to the former presidential candidate. Former President Barack Obama, who bested McCain in the 2008 presidential contest, posted a tribute to his departed rival on Twitter:

President Trump also said some kind words to the McCain family:

There has been a report circulating, however, that President Trump refused to authorize a message from the White House paying tribute to McCain.
Normally, such a story could be seen as an exaggeration, a rumor-filled fantasy spread by the media. But McCain and Trump have had a very contentious relationship. It’s not far-fetched to assume the report could be real. (RELATED: Trump Slams McCain for Obamacare Vote: He Cost Our Country A Lot.)
If so, I think it’s sad to see. Personally, I say give the man his due. McCain dedicated many years of service to his country, both in war and in Congress. In times like these, you let bygones be bygones.
But, sometimes, that’s not Trump’s way.
