On Wednesday, First Lady Melania Trump took the internet by storm after she was photographed in a long black dress and veil during a visit with her husband to the Vatican.
Mrs. Trump’s decision to honor Vatican protocol by wearing a veil was a stark contrast to her refusal to cover her head while in Saudi Arabia, a nation that is known for its poor treatment of women.
What many people didn’t know is that Melania is in fact a Catholic, and will be the first Catholic to occupy the White House since the Kennedys.
And while her fashion choices sent a powerful message to the world, a lighthearted moment during her meeting with Pope Francis has also caught the attention of many.
During the meet and greet, Pope Francis, through a translator, asked a personal family question of the First Lady. The Pope jokingly asked Mrs. Trump “What do you give him [President Trump] to eat -potica?”

Laughing, the First Lady did not dispute the Holy See’s assessment and replied, “Potica.” The Pope was asking Slovenian-born Melania Trump about a nut-filled cake known in her homeland as “Potica.” He tasted the traditional treat when Slovenian Prime Minister Miro Cerar visited the Vatican in 2015.
Trump, who boasts a 6-foot-3 frame, admittedly told talk show host Dr. Mehmet Oz in September that he could shed at least 15 pounds off his weight of 236.
“I could lose a little weight,” Trump said. An initial report from the Vatican claimed that the Pope asked if Trump was eating pizza but later clarified that the pontiff actually inquired about the cake.

The moment was a stark contrast to the Pope’s pointed attacks on President Trump. Over the past several years, the Pope has criticized President Trump’s views on illegal immigration, specifically calls for a wall to be build along the U.S.-Mexican border. He claimed that Muslim terrorism doesn’t exist, and even implied that President Trump isn’t a real Christian. The Pope’s harsh criticism of the President is quite ironic given that he lives surrounded by a big beautiful wall in the Vatican.
The Pope has also attacked President Trump on climate change and poverty, both issues which highlight the stark differences between the capitalist President and socialist Pope.
The First Lady showed her style and grace, setting aside the personal differences and expressing the honor she felt in getting to spend time with Pope Francis:
