There is an “active shooter situation” in a popular touriest and commercial area of downtown Charleston, according to police spokesman Charles Francis. King Street is currently closed between Calhoun and Morris Streets.
Employees working in the area near Virginia’s restaurant said they were on lockdown as authorities swarmed the area.
“They (police) said there was an active shooter at they think Virginia’s,” said Doug Warner, a spokesman for Charleston Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.
King btwn Calhoun & Morris blocked to motorist & pedestrian traffic active shooter in 400 block of King people to avoid the area.
