Juli Briskman was fired from her job in October when a photo of her flipping off President Donald Trump’s motorcade went viral. Now, Briskman is suing her former employer, Akima, under the contention that they violated Virginia employment law.
According to Briskman, “I filed this lawsuit against my former employer today because I believe that Americans should not be forced to choose between their principles and their paychecks.”
“I never imagined that my ‘one-finger salute’ to the Presidential motorcade and its occupant would cost me my job.”

Briskman’s suit claims that she was pulled aside at work and told she violated her company’s social media policy by posting the image on her Facebook and Twitter accounts. However, she says that she didn’t mention her affiliation with Akima anywhere on her social media pages and therefore couldn’t have been in violation of their policy. She was fired, she believes, because Akima – a government contractor – was afraid of “upsetting the federal government.”
“The actions of my company were swift and unexpected,” Briskman said. “It is un-American to let the government use your own tax dollars to buy your off-duty obedience.”
Whether Akima violated Briskman’s right to free speech or not, she certainly hasn’t failed to capitalize on her “cause.” Here’s a screenshot of her Twitter profile:
