Apology Not Accepted: Vern Buchanan Calls For Prosecution Of Lois Lerner

Last week, the Department of Justice finally admitted that the IRS unfairly targeted Tea Party groups under Barack Obama. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that the IRS had agreed to a settlement with the groups that were improperly targeted.

This admission of guilt was certainly a long time coming. However, Republican lawmakers want more than just a halfhearted apology. On Monday, Rep. Vern Buchanan, chairman of the oversight subcommittee responsible for the IRS, called for the DOJ to revisit prosecuting IRS official Lois Lerner, who in 2013 was the head of the division responsible for handling applications for nonprofit status.

“Lerner betrayed the nation’s trust yet managed to avoid prosecution,” Buchanan said. “Heads should roll and people should be held accountable for this gross abuse of power.”

“An apology five years after the fact is not good enough,” he added.

In September, the DOJ said it would not prosecute Lerner after reviewing her case. The decision enraged Republicans, and now that the IRS has finally admitted its guilt, the call for Lerner’s head has been renewed.

Just as Buchanan said, Lerner betrayed our nation’s trust and colluded with the FBI and DOJ to silence Obama’s opponents. She should be behind bars, but instead she’s living like a fat cat with her $100,000/year pension. If the Administration took half the effort they were putting into the Russia investigation and applied it to Lerner, she would have been behind bars a long time ago.

  1. Lois Lerner and Kostinen were both smug when testifying before Congress during the corrupt Imposter Obama and liberal democrat regime. It was learned under their leadership and management the IRS targeted conservative 501 c3 organizations and did not allow them the status requested and also “lost” their documentation. While Lois Learner took the 5th, Kostinen outright refused to hand-over any documentation to Congress. Both must be investigated for collusion and obstruction, and prosecuted as necessary.

  2. What was the grand total for the money to be paid out by taxpayers to the abused Tea Party groups? Only the Lois Lerner and anyone (aka Obama) who gave the instructions to abuse these groups should shoulder the cost. Any employee at the IRS who followed these illegal instructions should be penalized and shown the door.

  3. easy fix just strip her of her pension and benefits, and use them to pay off the settlement. she refuses to name co conspirators so that means she took it on her self to do so she should be forced to pay for the settlement and the best way to do it is strip her of all pension and benefits she gained working for the federal government!

  4. THIS was one of the most blatant abuses of power in the WHOLE history of the United States of America. The lame-steam media has blown it off. If Republicans had done this the howls for punishment would be unrelenting.

  5. It an apology is all that is need for their crimes, why don’t we just let all the incarcerated, apologize for thier crime and set them free, no jail time. After all, is’t the law and justice suppose to be the same for all, regarless of their positions in government, their high level political friends, their fame and money. She along with others need to be indited and face charges and do the time. Right?

  6. if the laws of this country mean anything these arrogant crooks have to be
prosecuted. all to them from obama on down and we have 25 years to
bring charges after they leave office. if the laws do not mean anything then
    we have anarchy.

  7. If those politicians knew how much IRS meddling affected their ability to collect political contributions, Congress in general would be willing to see Lerner ‘hang’. If everyone wrote their representative and reminded them that large political donations were substantially curtailed for fear of future audits by the IRS, it may change their perspective. This whole project of Lerners is/was extremely dangerous. And to this day, the little ‘weasel’ that was before the Congress during their little inquiry needs to be hung out some place and made an example of.

    1. Yes….the crooks and criminals in the government and Hollywood like playing “The Apology Game”.
They believe that a simple apology after they have been outed/caught committing a crime absolves them from prosecution or consequences………unbelievable. I am so sick of this “Apology Game”.

  8. Let me see. The government settled with those groups. Whos money paid that settlement? Taxpayers??? What did those who did the crime get????? EXCUSE ME… They should all get FINES, JUMP SUITS and JAIL. Any thing short of that is, being an accessory to the crime. JUSTICS DEPARTMENT DO YOUR JOB…OBUMER IS GONE..

  9. Good for you, Congressman Buchanan!!! Lerner’s lame apology is worth nothing. She needs to be castigated and punished for her blatant disregard for the law, imposing her personal ideology to prevent Conservative groups from fundraising to help their candidates win. Shame on the Demonazis using their political hutzpah against opposition, then lying about it, to boot, and thinking a lame apology will suffice. NO!!! She needs to be jailed, forfeit her pension and all government benefits, including pay for the time she was employed and breaking the law. About time the Repubs get a backbone against the Dems who constantly break our laws and get away with it.

  10. She clearly misused her power as an agent of the government to persecute a group based on their political beliefs. This is a violation of rules, laws, and her oath of office. What more do you need for an indictment?

  11. Lois is my girl friend’s stepdaughter. Lois was just doing her job as described by her boss. It is really nuts to attack her for doing her job. Her boss is the one to be prosecuted, for giving Lois bad leadershihp. Insanity like this is why I’m a TeaParty guy now. Republicans seem to have all become RINOs.

  12. I don’t get it. There is no prosecution for wrong doing and she still takes a pension… really….I tell you what, I get emails daily wanting donations for the RNC….”we need to fight” this or that. Don’t ask me to donate another dime because it seems NO ONE is held accountable. My donations are done RNC…. done!!

    1. Not meaning to make any comparison between the Nazis who “just followed orders” and Lerner who just “did her job” but the legal theory is the same. She followed illegal orders. U.S. military personnel are obligated to follow only legal orders – no illegal ones. She should be prosecuted and punished.

    1. Agree, Raquel. she reminds of the WWII concentration camp commandants who after the war and when charged, said, “I was only following orders”. They were imprisoned and some put before a firing squad.
“Most of the senior leaders of the camp, including Rudolf Höss, the longest-standing commandant of the camp, were turned over to the Polish authorities in 1947 following their participation as witnesses in the Nuremberg Trial. Subsequently, the accused were tried in Kraków and many sentenced to death for violent crimes and torturing of prisoners.[3] Only SS-Untersturmführer Hans Münch was set free, having been acquitted of war crimes.[4] That original trial in Poland is usually known as the first Auschwitz Trial.”

  13. Loss of Pension and all other Govt benefits, followed by Indictment, Prosecution, Conviction, and then 10 to 25 yrs in Fed Prison — in a special cell-block, adjacent to Bill and HRC, the Obamas, Holder, and the rest of that criminal gang!!
