Tucker Carlson Addresses President Trump’s Promises: ‘I Don’t Think He’s Capable’

Fox News host Tucker Carlson addressed what he believes are broken promises by the President, saying he “(doesn’t) think he’s capable of delivering” on those promises.

It was a stunning departure from his typically strong defense of the Trump administration, prompting some to speculate whether this was an attack on the president or a case of tough love.

Carlson took part in an interview with conservative Swiss magazine Die Weltwoche, in which the authors sought to drill down to the Fox News host’s personal views of the President himself.

“Do you think he has kept his promises?” the interviewer asked. “Has he achieved his goals?”

Tucker’s one-word response started a firestorm of reaction on social media.

“No,” he said.

Policies President Trump hasn’t delivered on, and won’t

Not only has he failed to deliver on his promises, according to Carlson, but he also isn’t about to.

“His chief promises were that he would build the wall, de-fund planned parenthood, and repeal Obamacare, and he hasn’t done any of those things,” he said.

Tucker believes this is part and parcel of being the unconventional President he is. Trump’s not designed for advancing legislation through Congress.

“I’ve come to believe that Trump’s role is not as a conventional president who promises to get certain things achieved to the Congress and then does,” the conservative pundit explained.

A lot of liberal media-types have latched onto the fact that Carlson said the President is not “capable.”

“I don’t think he’s capable,” Carlson said. “I don’t think he’s capable of sustained focus. I don’t think he understands the system. I don’t think the Congress is on his side. I don’t think his own agencies support him. He’s not going to do that.”

Questioned whether or not the President has had many achievements, Carlson responded “Not much. Not much. Much less than he should have. I’ve come to believe he’s not capable of it.”

What Trump has achieved so far

While lamenting that Trump hasn’t achieved the things he promised policy-wise, Tucker did say President Trump had successfully started national conversations on important topics such as border security and NATO.

“We were not having any conversation about immigration before Trump arrived in Washington,” he explained.

He also had a warning for the Republican Party – start representing the middle-class voters that Trump has delivered or suffer the consequences.

“Going forward the Republican Party will wake up and realize these are our voters and we’re going to represent them whether we want it or not,” he surmised. “They have to, or they will die.”

The Republican Party bears some of the blame

Of the three issues outlined, Republicans in Congress share a significant portion of the blame. They funded Planned Parenthood in the last two omnibus bills, which totaled over $3 trillion. Moderates in Congress halted any repeal and replacement of Obamacare. And they have yet to provide the border wall funding the President has been seeking.

It’s interesting to note that Carlson’s comments come in an interview conducted one week after former Trump adviser and long-time Republican operative Roger Stone declared the President might not run in 2020 if he perceives his first term as being a runaway success.

Perhaps Tucker is simply giving Trump a little reminder that there is much work to be done in order to make America great again.
