On Sunday, Liz Cheney claimed that she could “absolutely” win reelection, despite being a top – if not the top – target of former President Donald Trump.
Trump has endorsed one of Cheney’s primary opponents, Harriet Hageman, and repeatedly attacked Cheney for being a ‘warmonger’ and a ‘RINO.’
Cheney has drawn the ire of the former president and the Trump base for voting to impeach him and for incessant attacks against him.
Cheney made her remarks during an interview on CBS’s “60 Minutes.”
A record amount of money has poured into Rep. Liz Cheney’s reelection campaign ever since she started standing up against Donald Trump’s false election fraud claims. Cheney Claims Throne Of The Constitution
Cheney’s primary opponent in her Wyoming U.S. House race is attorney Harriet Hageman, who Trump has already endorsed. After voting to impeach Trump over his alleged role in the January 6 attack on Capitol, Cheney was removed from her House GOP leadership post.
The Republican claimed anyone who votes against her and instead cast their ballot for a Trump-endorsed candidate is “somebody who’s put allegiance to Trump above allegiance to the Constitution.”
“60 Minutes” co-host Leslie Stahl said to Cheney, “The Republican Party here has disowned you. They’ve called for your resignation. We’ve been told your approval rating here is down around 30%.”
“Can you win this seat?” Stahl asked.
“Absolutely,” a seemingly confident Cheney replied.
“I think it’s going to be the most important House race in 2022, and it will be one where people do have the opportunity to say we want to stand for the Constitution,” Cheney said.
Cheney added, “A vote against me in this race, a vote for whomever Donald Trump has endorsed, is a vote for somebody who’s willing to perpetuate the big lie, somebody who’s put allegiance to Trump above allegiance to the Constitution.”
The Republican establishment is indeed pulling out all the stops to protect Cheney.

GOP Establishment Backstop For Cheney
Former President George W. Bush, whose vice president was Cheney’s father, Dick Cheney, is headlining a fundraiser for the Wyoming representative in Dallas, Texas in October.
The sponsors of the event include establishment luminaries like Bush advisers Karl Rove and Karen Hughes, and moderate former Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.
A Bush spokesman said of the event, “President Bush is impressed by Liz Cheney’s strength and vision, and he’s proud to support her.”
And Bush isn’t the only establishment figure to back Cheney. A slew of ‘Never Trump’ Republicans have lined up behind her as well.

Two former Speakers of the House, Paul Ryan and John Boehner, are pulling in cash for Cheney.
Current ‘Never Trump’ representative Adam Kinzinger of Illinois has also joined the effort.
Neoconservative Cheney Is Foe Of Trump’s ‘America First’ Foreign Policy
Cheney is her father’s daughter, coming from the neoconservative wing of the Republican Party.
That faction, often represented by former Vice President Dick Cheney, has always prioritized the U.S. having an aggressive foreign policy.
Before becoming a critic of Trump over the January 6 incident, Cheney was a harsh critic of Trump’s ‘America First’ policies, which sought to end America’s lengthy wars.
