Donald Trump slammed “sloppy” Chris Christie after the former New Jersey governor declared he didn’t think the Republican candidate could beat President Biden in 2024.

“‘Sloppy’ Chris Christie, the failed former Governor of New Jersey, spent almost his entire last year in office campaigning in New Hampshire for the Republican Nomination for President,” Trump said in a Truth Social posting.

“Much like his term in office, where he left with an Approval Rating of just 9%, his Presidential campaign was a complete disaster.”

Trump added that he “never wanted” Christie as an ally and his career has only been “salvaged” by “ABC Fake News.”

That approval rating number wasn’t far off, as Christie left office as the least popular governor in his state’s history.

Chris Christie: Trump Can’t Win in 2024

Trump’s tirade was in response to an ABC News interview in which Chris Christie said he didn’t believe the Republican candidate would emerge victorious in a rematch with President Biden.

Christie predicted the GOP would produce a large field of candidates willing to take on Trump for the Republican nomination, a notion that some would contend actually helped propel him to victory in a crowded field in 2016.

“Can Trump beat Biden?” asked ABC’s Jonathan Karl.

“I don’t think so,” replied Christie.

Recent polls have shown Donald Trump faring rather well against Biden should the two engage in a rematch of the 2020 presidential contest.

Trump, in fact, is now viewed more favorably than President Biden, Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, according to a Harvard Caps Harris survey conducted between January 18th and 19th.

The prevailing view amongst detractors like Christie is that Trump is simply too unlikeable to defeat Biden in 2024.

To the contrary, that same Harvard Caps Harris survey conducted between January 18th and 19th indicates he’d defeat the President by a wider margin than any other GOP candidate.

Christie Upset Over Trump’s ‘Tantrum’

Christie responded to Trump’s comments about him being “sloppy” on Twitter.

“I’m the target of Donald Trump’s new tantrum,” Christie wrote. “None of his lies about me today bothered him when he asked me to prep him for every general election debate or offered me 3 different cabinet posts.”

“He’s the only man to lose to Biden outside Delaware,” he added. “That loss to Joe still stings.”

While it is true that Christie was once a close ally to Trump, he has recently pushed away from him in a manner he’d never push away at the buffet table.

Aside from seemingly being the world’s first unsuccessful lap band surgery recipient, he has a ton of baggage for those in the know in both New York and New Jersey – from Bridgegate to unwritten truces between he and ultra-liberal NY Governor Andrew Cuomo.

That said, Christie was one of Trump’s earliest supporters in the 2016 campaign, serving as an attack dog to help take down Marco Rubio during the debates.

And few remember that Christie was actually Trump’s first choice for Vice President in 2016, prior to being convinced otherwise by his inner circle.
