Trump Files $100 Million Lawsuit Against New York Times And Mary Trump For 2018 Tax Story

Donald Trump is going after one of his favorite targets – the former President filed a $100 million lawsuit against the New York Times and his niece Mary Trump.
At issue is a story the Gray Lady ran in 2018 about his taxes, and Mary Trump’s role in allegedly trying to procure information for the newspaper.

What The Suit Alleges
The lawsuit claims in part:
“The defendants engaged in an insidious plot to obtain confidential and highly-sensitive records which they exploited for their own benefit and utilized as a means of falsely legitimizing their publicized works. The defendants’ actions were motivated by a personal vendetta and their desire to gain fame, notoriety, acclaim and a financial windfall and were further intended to advance their political agenda.”
The defendants in the suit are three reporters from the New York Times, David Barstow, Susanne Craig, and Russ Buettner, who the former President’s lawsuit alleges, were “in the middle of an extensive crusade to obtain confidential tax records.”
As for the President’s niece, Mary Trump is accused of smuggling “the records out of her attorney’s office and turn them over” to Barstow, Craig, and Buettner.
The reporters ultimately won a Pulitzer Prize in 2019 for “exploratory reporting” into Donald Trump’s wealth based on those tax documents.

Mary Trump’s Track Record
Mary Trump has appeared to have some sort of vendetta against her uncle and his family for a long time. She has gone on the record to various liberal media outlets to trash the former president and his family.
Earlier last month, when far-left MSNBC commentator Joy Reid asked her if she thought Donald Trump had turned the GOP into a “fascist” party, she said, ““There’s no doubt about it.”
She has claimed that Republicans are passing voting laws merely in an attempt to get Donald Trump re-elected in 2024. Of the 2020 election results she said, “He doesn’t need anybody to convince him that he won. He needed to convince himself, because he got so badly beaten. He was so humiliated that that could not stand.”
No one in Donald Trump’s family is immune to Mary Trump throwing them under the bus. She also stated back in August that her cousins, Ivanka and Don Jr., “do not have the same likability their father does” and they “do not have enough charisma to connect with Republicans.”
Back in February on a podcast, Mary Trump admitted to being the source for the 2018 tax story, and also stated, “Yeah, um, I’m actually really proud of that…” But also wasted no time in painting herself as the victim of vindictive family members in her book, “Too Much and Never Enough.”
“I hadn’t fully grasped how much of a risk I was taking. If anybody in my family found out what I was doing, there would be repercussions — I knew how vindictive they were — but there was no way to gauge how serious the consequences might be.”
In a response to the lawsuit, Mary Trump, in an interview with the Daily Beast, stated,
“I think he is a f—ing loser, and he is going to throw anything against the wall he can,” adding, “It’s desperation. The walls are closing in and he is throwing anything against the wall that will stick. As is always the case with Donald, he’ll try and change the subject.”
Through a spokeswoman, Donald Trump said of the lawsuit, “More to come, including on other people, and Fake News media.”
The lawsuit alleges that the newspaper convinced Mary Trump to “smuggle records out of her attorney’s office and turn them over to The Times” despite her having signed a confidentiality agreement in 2001 after settling a contentious legal battle over the will of Frederick Trump
