Trump Campaign SUES CNN for ‘False and Defamatory Statements’

President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign is suing CNN for “false and defamatory statements,” and is seeking millions of dollars in compensation.

“Left with No Alternative”

The lawsuit by the Trump campaign was filed in the northern district of Georgia, where CNN is based, and claims that CNN published “false and defamatory statements” about the President and his campaign. The complaint refers to an article by Larry Noble, which, although an opinion piece, labelled as fact that the Trump campaign “assessed the potential risks and benefits of again seeking Russia’s help in 2020 and has decided to leave that option on the table.”

The complaint claims that CNN knew this was false, “because there was an extensive record of statements from the Campaign and the administration expressly disavowing any intention to seek Russian assistance,” but included it in the piece anyway. It goes on to say that the legal team for the President asked last month for a retraction from CNN but they refused.

“The Campaign therefore was left with no alternative but to file this lawsuit to: publicly establish the truth, properly inform CNN’s readers and audience (and the rest of the world) of the true facts, and seek appropriate remedies for the harm caused by CNN’s false reporting and failure to retract and apologize for it,” the complaint continued.

Trump Legal Advisor: “No Chilling Effect on Freedom of Press”

Jenna Ellis, the senior legal advisor to Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. told Fox News that “the complaint alleges CNN was aware of the falsity at the time it published them but did so for the intentional purpose of hurting the campaign while misleading its own readers in the process.”

She continued:

The campaign filed this lawsuit against CNN and the preceding suits against The New York Times and The Washington Post to hold the publishers accountable for their reckless false reporting and also to establish the truth… False statements are not protected under the U.S. Constitution; therefore, these suits will have no chilling effect on freedom of the press. If journalists are more accurate in their statements and reporting, that would be a positive development, but not why these suits were filed.

This is fantastic news! To see President Trump and his team sticking it to the mainstream media is incredible – I’m sure a lot of people have also wanted to sue CNN. For too long they have lied and slandered the President, conservatives, and ordinary Americans for no reason at all without consequences, and now the chickens are coming home to roost. I hope the whole damn network is bankrupted by the time this lawsuit is done with them – go on Mr President, save this country from the fake news media!
