Former President Donald Trump issued a statement slamming Democrats’ January 6 committee investigation into the Capitol riot after they requested documents pertaining to his mental health.
Earlier this week, The Political Insider reported that the committee was seeking phone and social media records for numerous individuals, including lawmakers and possibly members of President Trump’s family.
On Wednesday, the panel sent a copious number of requests to federal agencies for records they say are related to the incident.
The latest request demands that agencies turn over “all documents and communications relating to the Twenty-Fifth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.”
Additionally, federal agencies are requested to release “all documents and communications related to the mental stability of Donald Trump or his fitness for office.”

January 6 Committee Wants Records On Trump’s Mental Health
Aside from requesting documents pertaining to Trump’s mental health, the January 6 committee has also demanded information on conversations from individuals discussing his removal from office and any effort he may have made to implement martial law.
In regards to the aforementioned request for communications, the list is more a rather bizarre collection of Democrats’ favorite foils than it is people involved in the out-of-control protests that took place on January 6.
Records are asked to be preserved for former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, former First Lady Melania Trump, and all of the former President’s adult children sans Tiffany.
Other names include Roger Stone, Michael Flynn, Steve Bannon, and Rudy Giuliani.

Stone told Politico that it was unlikely the January 6 committee would find anything that hasn’t already been investigated.
“I think it is unlikely that the House committee witch hunt is going to find any documents or evidence that the FBI could not find,” he said.
Just last week, officials familiar with the FBI’s investigation into the Capitol riot indicated there is little to no evidence that the event was a coordinated plot to overturn the election.

A letter to the Pentagon from the committee also inquires about “the potential use of military power to impede or ensure the peaceful transfer of power” between the election and the inauguration.

Trump Slams Committee
Trump issued a blistering statement Wednesday regarding the January 6 committee’s demand for records from his family as well as those pertaining to his mental health.
“The Leftist ‘select committee’ has further exposed itself as a partisan sham and waste of taxpayer dollars with a request that’s timed to distract Americans from historic and global catastrophes brought on by the failures of Joe Biden and the Democrats,” he said.
“Unfortunately, this partisan exercise is being performed at the expense of long-standing legal principles of privilege.”

The former President vowed to invoke ‘executive privilege’ to combat the committee’s fishing expedition.
The panel, meanwhile, has subpoena power if agencies refuse to comply.

It’s remarkable that the same members of the January 6 committee would question the mental health of former President Trump but wouldn’t even consider questioning the same regarding President Joe Biden.
It’s difficult to look at this document request and not think it’s anything more than a sham designed to collect damaging or embarrassing information against their political opponents.
