Trump Advisor Bannon Issues Warning To Biden Admin: They ‘Took On The Wrong Guys’

Bannon Issues Warning To Biden Adm. Of 'Misdemeanor From Hell,' 'You Took On The Wrong Guys'

Former Trump Advisor Steve Bannon vowed to make life for the Biden White House difficult as he left a court appearance in Washington D.C. It was Bannon’s first court appearance since his indictment on Friday for defying the January 6 Committee’s congressional subpoena.

The Department of Justice said that Bannon did not “comply in any way,” by not showing up for the deposition or producing documents relating to January 6.

Gearing Up For A Fight

As he left the courthouse, Bannon hardly looked like a man intimidated by the Department of Justice or Joe Biden. In fact, he had a message for Biden, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland.

“I’m telling you right now, this is going to be the misdemeanor from hell for Merrick GarlandNancy Pelosi and Joe Biden. … We’re going on the offense. They took on the wrong guy this time; they took on the wrong guys.”

Defying a congressional subpoena is a misdemeanor offense but could carry fines of $100 to $1,000 and a year in jail for each count.

Bannon turned himself into the FBI’s Washington office on Monday morning and was released without bond. He was required to surrender his passport and agree to weekly check-ins with the court. He will be arraigned on Thursday where it is likely he will plead not guilty.

Invoking Executive Privilege

Bannon has stated that he would not comply with the subpoena, citing executive privilege.

David Shoen, Bannon’s attorney, contends that executive privilege can apply to employees even after they are no longer employed at the White House. He stated:

“Office of Legal Counsel opinions make clear that it applies to discussions with former government officials. And that makes sense — it makes sense because we often see former officials kept in the loop that the president needs to consult with. That’s what executive privilege exists for. So that people can speak freely with the president, talk about strategy matters and talk about national security.”

A Martyr For The Cause?

The January 6 Committee is seen by many Republicans and conservatives as nothing more than a way to punish those who worked for and remain loyal to former President Donald Trump.

Given those feelings, Democrats on the Committee may be concerned that Bannon may be seen as a martyr of sorts for Trump and his supporters. Committee Chairman Rep. Benny Thompson (D-MS) said of Bannon and his unwillingness to comply,

“Mr. Bannon will comply with our investigation or he will face the consequences. Maybe he’s willing to be a martyr to the disgraceful cause of whitewashing what happened on Jan. 6 — of demonstrating his complete loyalty to the former president.”

The Committee investigating January 6 is leaving no stone unturned, and showing no mercy for anyone associated with Donald Trump as they hunt down former Trump associates to subpoena.

In addition to issuing a subpoena for former Trump Chief of Staff Mark Meadows to testify, committee member Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) says a criminal referral could be in the works.

More than 30 people from the Trump administration have been issued subpoenas including former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEneny, Senior Advisor Stephen Miller, and Trump campaign official Katrina Pierson.
