Trey Gowdy is Demanding James Comey Return to Congress for Questioning

Congressman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) announced on Fox News today that there is “sufficient factual basis” to investigate former FBI Director James Comey’s decision not to charge Hillary Clinton before the agency had a chance to interview the former secretary of state over her use of a private email server.

Gowdy explains the critical question involved: “There is sufficient factual basis to bring him in and ask him, ‘When did you make up your mind that you weren’t going to charge Secretary Clinton?’ I can tell you because I’ve seen with my own eyes he made up his mind before he interviewed her. How far back, whether it was two weeks or two months, quite frankly is immaterial to me. He did it before he interviewed the last witness.”

Gowdy, a former prosecutor, explained that one of the first rules of every investigation is to hold off on final conclusions until all evidence is properly reviewed. Gowdy noted, “If there’s anything that’s axiomatic in investigations it’s that you don’t make up your mind until you interview the last witness. It is beyond dispute that he made up his mind not to charge Secretary Clinton before he interviewed her. There’s no question about that. What my friends in the Senate have uncovered is he may well have made up his mind before he interviewed the last dozen witnesses.”

Gowdy didn’t say if he agrees with White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders that Comey is guilty, but he suggested such details should be passed along to Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the Department of Justice. Gowdy opined, “Alleging criminal violations is very serious which is why I don’t do it. Press secretaries don’t get to make that call. Members of Congress don’t get to make that call. Reporters don’t get to make that call. That’s an executive branch function after an investigation, a charging decision is made by a career prosecutor.” He continued, “If it’s that clean and clear I’m sure [Sanders] referred it to the Department of Justice.”

But Comey’s actions are definitely very troubling. “How in the world my fellow citizens can have confidence in an investigation where you reached a conclusion before you even gather all the facts and all the evidence is stunning,” Gowdy concluded.

James Comey might want to call his lawyer today. Things are about to become very serious.

  1. I have know confidence in any of these fools from the criminal justice system. I listened to Trey, Jeanine Pirro, Andrew Napolitano, Rudy Giuliani and other lesser mortals defend Comey right up to July 5, 2016 and even thereafter in the case of Gowdy. I had Comey’s number long before all these stars of the political world said so many stupid things about Jimbo’s character. Thanks for nothing, guys.

  2. This information surprises me NOT even a little bit! It has become clear there are two sets of Justice…..One for the common man, and the other for the Politically Elite. Comy is among the Politically Elite, and therefore will never be arrested, tried and brought to Justice. There is no Justice for those who are criminals and members of the Politically Elite. What do you think the odds are against HilLIARy ever being charged in a court of law for the many and well-known criminal acts in which she has been involved?

  3. No Groovy, I am American with ancestors going back (at least) to the War of 1812 on the American side. And I was good enough to get a Security clearance during my military service. Back then I swore to defend my country against all enemies both foreign and domestic. I was never relieved of that obligation. So, when Trump starts pushing for a strong man government that tries to get a populist revolution against our Constitution, I am obligated to speak out, as a minimum.

The Constitution is more than the 2nd Amendment. It provides that Congress may appropriate money for BOTH the common defense AND general welfare. It provides for protection against unlawful search and seizure, and requires proper safeguards for those accused of crimes. None of Don’T followers seem to be concerned with those parts of the Constitution, and many of them (on this web site) have suggested trashing those parts of my Constitution.

No one pays me for doing what is right. Now, which of the Russian fronts pay you?

    1. You talk like a fool…like a liberal all wet with self gratification. You seem to have your own ignorant opinion, and as with most knucklehead liberals, shows only their hypocrisy, instead of intelligence.

      1. All insult and no content.
You sound like a Trump supporter.

Tell me again, why Trey Gowdy isn’t doing any investigation of the blotched Yemen raid that killed U.S. Navy SEAL William “Ryan” Owen, and injured three others?

      1. If Groovy can accuse me of being paid by Soros, which is a lie, I can ask him if he is being paid by the Russians.
And Lawrence can say that there have been no conclusions from the Benghazi investigation, when there have been four and all reached the same conclusion, that there was nothing that could have been done that would have lead to a different outcome.
Where is the angst about the Yemen raid that Trump approved? Where is the inquiry about the blotched raid that killed American Navy SEAL William “Ryan” Owens?

  4. A worry….does a public prosecutor have the authority to disregard a crime? How far can the public trust be nullified? If a public prosecutor disregard a crime, does he automatically become an accompice to it? How does one discover and prosecute such prosecutors?

  5. Re; poppDavid
This guy must be a paid Troll from a foreign country…. like a liberal from EU or lives there. Because he’s posting comments in the middle of the night here. Plus all negative towards Trump and Republicans! As PAID SOROR TROLL…. as they get!!!

    1. I work a day job, and don’t spend my employer’s time on the internet.
If Soros is paying for this, his check must have gotten lost in the mail.
Actually, when I served, I swore to protect our country from all enemies both foreign and domestic. I never ceased to honor that commitment. And for my money, Don’T represents the latter, as do those who would require absolute loyalty to the Fearless Leader above loyalty to the Constitution.

  6. “Gowdy, a former prosecutor, explained that one of the first rules of every investigation is to hold off on final conclusions until all evidence is properly reviewed.”

    Really?

That didn’t happen in any of Trey’s investigation of Benghazi.

And it hasn’t happened in the investigation of the failed Yemen raid that killed American SEAL William “Ryan” Owens, 36, and injured three other Navy SEALS. Trey decided at the very start that the death of an American SEAL under Don’T isn’t worth investigation.

    1. There is no evidence of a crime. And, that was Obumma’s failed plan, in Yemen, which they told Trump, was ready to go. Furthermore, Benghazi, has not reached a conclusion. You haven’t a clue what is going on!!

  7. This helps to explain the amateurish manner in which the investigation was conducted. As he said himself, Comey is a weasel. He kept Hillary out of jail and should go himself for defrauding the American public. But I fear Jeff Sessions is too weak to even consider going after him.

  8. I have all this over and over and over News flash Clinton lied about Benghazi News flash Clinton foundation takes millions of dollars from foreign governments News flash Comey broke the law Bla Bla Bla and nothing ever happens I think that Trey Gowdy is a great man and up standing man and he would do everything in his power to get to the bottom of this but I don’t think the DOJ will back him .I think that there are too many powerful people involved in all of this and they all will not be brought to justice .Unless there were 500 thousand Americans protesting on the White House lawn they all will skate .These people kill all who could blow the whistle on them and they get away with.Because nobody has the balls to investigate their killings John Gottti was slick but Obama Comey Holder Jarrett Rice Clinton and Lynch are much slicker than John Gotti the Teflon Don

  9. Comey never had any intention of charging Hillary because like his predecessors Mueller and Freeh he is very closely tied personally and financially to the Clintons. They have been in the Clintons pockets for years. Go back and look at their histories.

  10. Trey Gowdy. The reason he didnt go into the Trump regime was because his family was threatened. As to the 2 investigators he sent to Arkansas their deaths are part of a ring of deaths. i wont say who but an intelligent person can bring 2 lines together to form one line.

    1. Hey,, not only Comey, but Lynch, Hillary and Bill Clinton to begin with and send them to Federal prison. Then the ball will start rolling right into Obama’s court, then it will all come to Light !!!!!

    1. Totally agree with you Mary, I think Gowdy would have gotten the job done as FBI director or he would have been better at the Attorney General position than Sessions is!

  11. Comey is just a lackey that overstepped his bounds. The real perps here are (from the top down) Obama, Hillary Clinton, Susan Rice, Eric Holder, Bill Clinton and a host of others. They all need to be brought before a Federal Grand Jury to be indicted, then be prosecuted, convicted, sentenced and imprisoned, preferrably for life, for treason and other high crimes against the American people.

  12. There was so much collusion then between the Department of Justice and the FBI, and there still is to this day, that all parties should be scrutinized and charged if necessary. But the majority of Americans are already convinced that all heads should roll, starting with Comey, Lynch, Rice, Holder, Jarrett, both Clintons, and Obysmal.

  13. Itrail laid out a very good recap of Comey’s un-FBI-like actions. See his comment at 2:31 pm. A Comey press conference in July, 2016 acknowledged that the FBI investigation of Clinton’s email server had uncovered proof of 110 violations of the Espionage Act. More violations have come to light since then. The tainted investigation needs to be reopened.

  14. Trey Gowdy as usual has brought his incredible knowledge of the law to bear upon this matter. He of course has his own suspicions on this matter but wants Jeff Sessions to take the lead on this investigation as he is the head of the justice department which is the logical choice in matters like this one. Trey Gowdy is a real blessing to have in congress he never stands down but goes after the truth no matter what while at the same time obeying the law in every way.

  15. The story failed to disclose one VERY BIG THING. Comey lied under oath, he stated under oath when he was asked “Did you write that letter denying in wrong doing by Clinton after you interviewed her”? Comeys answer is on record as saying ” Yes I wrote the letter after Interviewing Clinton” That then became perjury…You trash Dems can spin, spin and spin all you want…The chief law enforcement office is nothing but a LIAR…Comey should be in prison..

    1. Absolutely, it is definitely time to clean out the swamp via the judiciary. Perjury, for one, is a violation punishable by imprisonment. I trust Trey Gowdy to go after all the offensive players involved herein and to have Jeff Sessions adjudicate these (alleged) criminals — and that may well extend to the pious Robert Mueller and the arrogant Barack Obama. Their previous positions should not be considered as protection from the law

    Dear Atty. Gen. Jeffrey Sessions:

I am writing this letter to you regarding former Director FBI James Brien Comey. There are many reasons that I question why he continues to say that the Hillary Rodham Clinton email case is “Closed”. Suffice it to say, my feeling is that he wants to implant that thought in everyone’s mind to make it so. There are many reasons that I feel that something is wrong and the case must continue under more ethical leadership.

When the Clinton email case was opened, Mr. Comey could have chosen any one of 1000 FBI agents to oversee the case. Yet, he personally decided to oversee the case himself; for some reason. Could it be that he chose to assume total leadership over the case so he could continue to be the protector of Hillary Clinton from a real investigation? What better control is there when the investigator is already owned by the subject? I suggest that that is true. He has performed numerous things to sabotage the Hillary Clinton email case.

    1. He provided immunity to the only witnesses who could successfully lead to substantiate criminal activities.
    2. He interviewed Hillary Clinton but for only four hours on a Saturday. That was the extent of his determination of no guilt and he didn’t take notes.
    3. Mr. Comey’s role was as an investigator. Yet Mr. Comey chose to usurp the role of prosecutor away from his supervisor Ms. Loretta Lynch. Comey as Investigator, had no authority to determine innocence or guilt, yet he exonerated Hillary Clinton and arrived at a “not guilty” verdict by declaring that there was a lack of “intent”; that is not required by the Rule of Law.
    4. Former Atty. Gen. Ms. Loretta Lynch met with the subject’s spouse, Bill Clinton, in an airplane in Phoenix Arizona. Upon concluding that meeting, Atty. Gen. Lynch apparently decided not to investigate or prosecute Hillary Clinton after that meeting. Something said or done by Bill Clinton in that plane determined the outcome of the Clinton email case.
    5. He did not use subpoenas or warrants.
    6. He allowed the destruction of evidence and even lost some evidence.
    7. As I understand, Comey did not have witnesses give testimony under oath.
    8. He did not use a grand jury.
    9. He ensured that justice was obstructed in the Hillary Clinton email investigation.
    10. And he did many other irregularities to corrupt the entire case against Hillary Clinton.

And above else, James Comey interjected himself as the sole investigator. I ponder how the DOJ would allow James Comey to be the investigator of the case, when he, himself, has direct relationships with the subject; there is bias and there are self-serving decisions. He should have recused himself.

James Comey’s brother is the tax preparer for the Clintons.

James Comey is a director of the bank HSBC Holdings. This bank has donated millions of dollars to the Clinton Foundation.

I submit this letter to you, our new Attorney General for your consideration. I welcome you to your new position, Mr. Sessions.

    Sincerely,

Cc: FBI Dir. Christopher A. Wray
