Following his final round at The Northern Trust, legendary PGA golfer Tiger Woods was prodded by a reporter to denounce his relationship with President Trump.
Tiger wasn’t having any of it.
What his private relationship with the President has to do with his performance in a golf tournament is anybody’s guess, but one reporter decided to make Woods defend his friendship with Trump, tried to goad him into commenting on immigration police, and prompted him to discuss race relations in America.
And networks like ESPN can’t figure out why people are starting to tune them out. Not everything needs to be political or a tie-in to ripping Trump.
“Your relationship with Donald Trump, how would you describe that professionally and personally,” one reporter asked out of the blue.
“Well, I’ve known Donald for a number of years,” Woods calmly replied. “We’ve played golf together. We’ve had dinner together. I’ve known him pre-presidency and obviously during his presidency.”
Not content to ask one stupid question, the reporter then dove head first into the immigration debate, something incredibly relevant to the golf tournament he just played.
“At times, especially 2018, I think a lot of people, especially immigrants are threatened by him and his policy — what do you say to people who might find it interesting that you have a friendly relationship with him?” the reporter asked Woods.
The man who ranks second amongst all-time major championship winners in his sport didn’t miss a beat, defending the office of the Presidency and saying it needs to be respected.
“He’s the President of the United States. You have to respect the office. No matter who is in the office, you may like, dislike personality or the politics, but we all must respect the office,” Woods shot back.

Finally fed up with the reporter’s line of questioning, Woods responded to his goading him into a discussion on race relations by shutting the conversation down.
“Do you have anything more broadly to say about the state and the discourse of race relations?” the reporter asked.
“No,” Tiger responded, “I just finished 72 holes and really hungry.”

Where were these questions when President Obama, the nation’s first black President, was destroying race relations in America?
A poll one month prior to the 2016 election which saw Trump vault into the White House showed a majority of Americans believed race relations had worsened under Obama. 54% said the divide had grown worse, while a very low 16% said it had gotten better.
By contrast, in May of 2009, mere months into Obama’s first term, 32% of all Americans believed race relations had improved, while only 6% said they had gotten worse.
That is a massive 64-point turnaround.
Pretty sure Tiger was playing golf back in those two Obama terms and nary an ESPN reporter asked him about race relations in America.
