According to “Squad” member Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, ICE’s detention of migrants is similar to “the auction block during slavery,” as she said recently on the podcast Pod Save America hosted by former speechwriter for Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, Jon Lovett.
‘Cruelty is the point’
Pressley described current border security policy as “cruelty.” She also said that cruelty was intentional.
“I didn’t buy for a second that the humanitarian crisis at the border had anything to do with a deficit of funding,” Pressley told Lovett. “When I went to the border to bear witness to this humanitarian crisis, we saw plenty of toothbrushes and toothpaste and the like, so again, the cruelty is the point.”

“It’s simply about how you choose to dedicate and allocate those funds, and within days of that bill passing, that package passing, this so-called humanitarian aid bill I think something like three new ICE facilities were opened, and then they were putting into play ICE raids throughout the country, and that is why throughout my campaign I called for the defunding and abolishing of ICE,” she added.
‘Auction block during slavery’
“I am not cavalier about the abolishing of any agency,” Pressley contended. “There are plenty of agencies that I think are in dire need of reform, and I do that work with my team every day to hold them accountable, but an agency that is using what throughout history has been proven as one of the most effective tools of oppression, which is to separate families.”
Pressley added, “We’re all shocked by what we see, but we’ve been here before on reservations with indigenous and native people, at the auction block during slavery.”
Seriously? Whatever one’s opinion of current border security policy and the severity of any methods used, does any of this even remotely compare to the horrors of slavery?
It’s offensive to even suggest such a thing.

Nothing New for ‘The Squad’
But this is nothing new coming from the far-left Squad comprised of Pressley and her fellow freshmen Congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib. These women play identity politics for a living, trying to portray something as basic as border security as some sort of racist scheme.
They live to bash President Donald Trump, and as the head of the Republican National Committee Ronna McDaniel said recently, this group’s extremism is actually helpful to the GOP.
“We want them active on social media, we want them just totally unleashed,” McDaniel said when asked about the effect these women and their antics might have on future Republican voters. “They’re very divisive, and we are finding that in everything we’re seeing.”
“We encourage the left to embrace them and we will continue to highlight that embrace,” she added.
No doubt. And when they compare border security policy to slavery, how many Americans will embrace such a comparison? Even in the Democratic Party?
