On Thursday, Sen. Ted Cruz punched back at CBS News veteran Dan Rather on after the legendary anchor said Cruz’s tweets should come with a “trigger warning.”

On Wednesday, Rather tweeted, “When Cotton or Cruz trends on Twitter it should come with a trigger warning.”

Cruz To Rather: ‘You’ve Spent 60 Years Being A Professional Liar’

Cruz shot back a day later, “I’m sorry your sensitive soul is triggered. You’ve spent 60 years being a professional liar.”

Before this exchange, the Texas Republican senator tweeted about a Washington Post column that focused on the general public increasingly losing trust in the mainstream media.

Cruz tweeted Wednesday, “This must be parody. Author laments public mistrust of press & identifies four ‘core values’ of journalists: Transparency, factuality, spotlighting wrongdoing, giving a voice to the voiceless. Ignores that the press ONLY FOLLOWS THEM WHEN IT HELPS DEMOCRATS.”

Cruz also shared his thoughts on vaccinations and masks, joking that, “The Biden Admin has rolled out their new national mandate that—after every person in America has been vaccinated—we all must wear iron masks…forever.”

The ‘Man in the Iron Mask’ is a 1998 movie, based on the Three Musketeers novels by Alexandre Dumas about the mysterious 17th century French prisoner during the reign of King Louis XIV.

Cruz And Rather Have Sparred On Social Media Before

This is not the first time Rather and Cruz have tussled on social media.

When Texas was suffering from massive power outages during unusual freezing weather in February, Cruz sparked controversy by traveling to Cancun with his family.

On February 18, Rather tweeted, “There’s an old Texas saying: When the going gets tough, the tough go to Cancun. (No, there actually is no such saying).”

Later that day, Rather followed up by tweeting, “Let’s be fair. Dunking on Ted Cruz is sort of like dunking on a 3-foot rim,” Rather wrote that same day.

Many readers will remember Rather became infamous for a 2004 “60 Minutes” segment – now known as “Memogate” or “Rathergate” – that used unverified documents to denigrate President George W. Bush’s service in the national guard.

CBS News reported then that “The story has mushroomed into a major media scandal, threatening the reputations of CBS News and chief anchor Dan Rather.”

Rather would later step down.
