I would have entered the Navy if I had not joined the United States Air Force instead. Traveling the world on a ship and wearing their vast array of very cool uniforms seemed appealing to a much young version of your favorite political commentator. Alas, I chose the Air Force life, but I still managed to forge bonds with and work closely with my brothers and sisters in the Navy.
The United States military has struggled with the scourge of sexual harassment and assault for decades. Despite new programs, new offices, new training, and stand-down days meant to increase awareness and decrease instances of sexually related crimes, the military still wrestles with scandal after scandal.
Think of any public high school in America today, it’ll probably remind you a bit of your high school days since the roles stay the same even though the fashion may change. You’ve got the jocks to the left, the goths and nerds to the right, and of course a bunch of military recruiters trolling around the grounds during lunch and free periods searching for fresh faces to fill those increasingly difficult recruitment quotas.
