On Monday, a suspicious package containing white powder that was delivered to the home of Sen. Rand Paul. The package also contained a violent threat inside.
The package is currently being investigated by the FBI and Capitol Hill police, a Paul senior adviser told Politico.
I take these threats immensely seriously. As a repeated target of violence, it is reprehensible that Twitter allows C-list celebrities to encourage violence against me and my family. https://t.co/e1rQ6uwPdf

Sen. Paul: ‘I Take These Threats Immensely Seriously’
Politico reported, “‘A large envelope arrived at the senator’s home in Kentucky and is currently being examined for harmful substances,’ Sergio Gor said. The sender is unknown.”
“I take these threats immensely seriously,” Paul said in a statement.
“As a repeated target of violence, it is reprehensible that Twitter allows C-list celebrities to encourage violence against me and my family,” Paul added. “Just this weekend Richard Marx called for violence against me and now we receive this powder filled letter.”
Marx, the musician many remember for having big hits in the 1980s and 1990s, tweeted on Sunday, “I’ll say it again: If I ever meet Rand Paul’s neighbor I’m going to hug him and buy him as many drinks as he can consume.”

Package Note: ‘I’ll Finish What Your Neighbor Started You Motherf——‘
Fox News reported that the package contained an image of “a bruised and bandaged Paul with a gun to his head and a threat printed beneath it: ‘I’ll finish what your neighbor started you motherf——”
Paul’s neighbor, Rene Boucher, pled guilty to assaulting Paul in 2017 and was convicted of felony assault. The senator suffered broken ribs among other health problems.
As the senator’s wife, Kelley Paul, explained in a CNN op-ed in 2017, “The average person takes 20,000 breaths a day. Since November 3, my husband, Rand Paul, has not taken a single one without pain.”
“He has not had a single night’s sleep uninterrupted by long periods of difficult breathing or excruciating coughing,” she added.

Mrs. Paul also described the real damage the attack did to her husband.
“This was not a ‘scuffle,’ a ‘fight’ or an ‘altercation,’ as many in the media falsely describe it,” Mrs. Paul wrote. “It was a deliberate, blindside attack.”
“The impact left Rand with six broken ribs, three displaced, pleural effusion and now pneumonia,” she explained.
