Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) donned a bright gold LSU Tigers jersey Wednesday and took the field for some action prior to the upcoming Congressional Baseball Game on June 14th. It was roughly one year after he was nearly assassinated by a gunman who had a Republican hitlist in his pocket as he attempted to mow down lawmakers at a morning practice.

Scalise was among four people injured that day, suffering from a gunshot wound that damaged his hip, femur, and pelvis, and as CBS explains, “requir(ed) doctors to virtually put him back together again in a series of surgeries.”

He told reporters at a press conference that he “felt great” after attending practice a year later, calling his survival a “miracle.”

Even the Democrat team was glad to see Scalise on the field again, though they jokingly hinted he might be ‘spying’ on their team.

Hell, everybody was glad to see such a heartwarming comeback. Right?

Everyone except some unhinged liberals on social media, that is.

Unhinged indeed.

President Trump gave the congressman a shout out at his State of the Union address in January, saying he is “one of the toughest people ever to serve in this House — a guy who took a bullet, almost died, and was back to work three and a half months later: the legend from Louisiana, Congressman Steve Scalise.”

It was James Hodgkinson, a far-left Bernie Sanders supporter, who opened fire at the ball field in 2017, critically injuring congressman Scalise, along with four others. (RELATED: Dramatic Video Emerges of Moment Shooter Opened Fire on Republicans).

While Scalise is still recovering from those injuries, Rep. Mia Love of Utah will be taking his place at second base for the upcoming game.
