Liberals continue to be outraged at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ decision to fly roughly 50 illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard last month, such as Julie Gunnigle, the Democrat candidate for district attorney in Maricopa County, Arizona. Gunnigle isn’t just another regular candidate running for elected office, she also has the backing of left-wing billionaire George Soros.

During a recent interview, Gunnigle hinted that she believed criminal charges should be forthcoming for DeSantis sending the migrants north to Massachusetts.

Pushing a Radical Agenda

During her appearance on “The MeidasTouch” podcast, Gunnigle first took bit of a dig in at Arizona Republicans while speaking of DeSantis’ recent controversy.

“When I saw that, my first thought was that Arizona Republicans are ashamed that they didn’t think of it first,” said Gunnigle. “When I see that sort of cruelty, that is the status quo from the extremists who are here in Arizona at all levels of government, and we’ve got to do better.

“I hope that that is thoroughly investigated beyond just the civil suit because that shocked my conscience to be sure.”

Judging by her record, its no wonder why Soros selected Gunnigle to be one of his acolytes. She has been a supporter of open borders and has voiced support in the past for such groups as LUCHA (Living United for Change in Arizona), which advocates the abolishment of ICE.

Gunnigle has also lauded a group called a group called Mass Liberation, who not only advocates for abolishing of ICE, but also the police. She has also stated that immigration status should be part of consideration when charging individuals for crimes so they would not face deportation.

In another interview, Gunnigle was asked by a reporter, whether prosecutors should add additional immigration related consequences when making decisions regarding charges, plea offers, and sentencing.

“When prosecutors make plea offers and argue for sentences, they do so within the interests of justice,” Gunnigle responded “And the interests of justice should be an individualized determination that is driven by all of the issues that are happening in someone’s life, up to and including immigration status.

“I have adopted the American Immigration Attorney Council’s statement that there are ways to make plea offers as immigration-neutral as possible.”

Border Stats

The stream of immigrants crossing the southern border seems to have no end in sight, with the current numbers showing a grim reality. The number of border crossings by illegal immigrants will go beyond 2 million for fiscal year 2022. That number is well above the 1.7 million that crossed in fiscal year 2021.

Customs and Border Patrol reported roughly 203, 598 encounters in August. CBS News reports that also in August, nearly 25% of all migrant encounters by CBP involved someone who had been previously apprehended this year and crossed again.

The stream of illegal immigrants may not help the Democrats in the run up to the midterm election. According to a recent Ipsos poll, 54% of Americans would call the influx of migrants an “invasion.” That number includes 76% of Republicans, 46% of Independents, and even 40% of Democrats.

Ganging up on DeSantis

Gunnigle is not the first person to entertain the idea of criminally prosecuting Ron DeSantis for what liberals have described as a “stunt” of sending migrants to Martha’s Vineyard.

Late last month, Bexar County Texas Sheriff Javier Salazar announced that his office was opening an investigation into the two planeloads of migrants that went to Martha’s Vineyard.

Salazar claims to be investigating if the migrants were promised things like jobs or some other incentive for making the trip. DeSantis has denied anything like that took place, that the migrants boarded the planes of their own accord.

After a lawsuit was filed in behalf of the immigrants by activists in Massachusetts, DeSantis produced a consent form that migrants were required to sign prior to their trip to Martha’s Vineyard.
