Wow.  Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump had some strong words for “no good traitor” Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl at a campaign rally earlier today.

He “should have been executed,” Trump said, referring to Bergdahl’s desertion of his post in Afghanistan in 2009.

“Thirty years ago,” he said, “he would have been shot.”

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump says Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl should have been executed for leaving his post in Afghanistan.

Trump made the comments Thursday afternoon at a rowdy rally inside a packed Las Vegas theater at the casino-hotel Treasure Island.

Trump says Bergdahl is a “no-good traitor” and would have been shot 30 years ago.

Bergdahl was charged in March with desertion and misbehavior before the enemy. The Army conducted a hearing on his case earlier this month.

Six American soldiers gave their lives searching for Bergdahl after he abandoned his fellow troops and disappeared into Taliban hands for over five years.

President Obama traded five high-ranging Taliban commanders for Bergdahl, then took a victory lap in the Rose Garden over the deal.

Soldiers from Bergdahl’s brigade were less celebratory, siding with Trump’s sentiments.

“I say we welcome him home with a firing squad,” one individual said.  “He’s a piece of trash and everyone from [Fort Richardson] knows it, the only person less American than that man is the president for giving up 5 hvt’s [High-Value Targets].”

Comment:  Did Trump go too far with his comments about Bergdahl, or do his traitorous actions require extreme punishment?
