Watch: Sarah Huckabee Sanders Gets Emotional Reading Veteran’s Letter to Trump

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders became noticeably emotional upon reading a letter sent to President Trump from an Air Force veteran.

The letter was from Joseph, a man who served in Iraq, to his son who is currently on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan.

It takes on a special meaning considering the backdrop of President Trump’s renewed military focus in Afghanistan.

“You’re the only hope and glimmer of light for the good, innocent men, women and children that you are protecting,” Joseph wrote to his son.

“Stand tall, my son, and be steadfast. For it is you who are the defender of freedom.”

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders got emotional during Thursday’s press briefing while reading a letter from a father to his son serving in the U.S. Air Force.

Joseph, a man from Santa Fe, Tennessee, sent his son, a master sergeant in the Air Force, a letter nearly ten years ago while he was serving in Iraq. Now, with his son on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan, Joseph sent the letter he wrote to his son nearly a decade ago to President Trump.

Joseph, who’s served as a police officer for more than 30 years, wrote that he hopes the president receives and reads the letter, which Sanders confirmed he has.

While reading a portion of Joseph’s touching letter at the press briefing, Sanders grew visibly emotional.

Sanders stated that the men and women who have fought in Afghanistan for 17 years are owed ‘a lasting and honorable outcome to the conflict.’

Earlier this week, military leaders praised President Trump’s speech addressing a path to achieving that outcome.

“From now on, victory will have a clear definition: attacking our enemies, obliterating ISIS, crushing Al Qaeda, preventing the Taliban from taking over Afghanistan, and stopping mass terror attacks against America,” Trump announced in his address to the nation.

Fox News host Bret Baier said he received messages during Trump’s speech from current and former special forces members saying his speech was the one “they wanted to hear.”

Perhaps Joseph and his son are as inspired by the White House as the White House was by them.
