Nancy Pelosi Blocks Names of 13 Killed U.S. Servicemembers From Being Read On House Floor

On Tuesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi blocked the efforts to read the names of the 13 fallen U.S. service members who were killed in a terrorist bombing in Afghanistan on the House floor, according to House Republicans.

Needless to say, Republicans were outraged.

Rep. Mast: ‘They Did Not Acknowledge Us, And Just Closed The House Down’

GOP Rep. Brian Mast, who was wounded during combat in Afghanistan, said that Pelosi ignored the request made by Republicans to read the names.  

“We gaveled in, had a prayer, said the Pledge of Allegiance, took a moment of silence with pretty much all Republican veterans, then asked to be recognized to read names and bring up Afghanistan legislation,” Mast said during an interview with the Floridian.

“They did not acknowledge us, and just closed the House down,” Mast headed.

GOP Congressman Carlos A. Gimenez tweeted,  “How badly do Nancy Pelosi and the House Democrats want to cover up this Afghanistan debacle?”

Rep. Steube: Pelosi Move Shows ‘How Far Our Nation Has Fallen’

He added, “They just blocked Members of Congress from reading the names of the service members who sacrificed their lives in Afghanistan last week. Don’t you think our military deserves better?”

Republican Greg Steube saids that Pelosi’s move showed “how far our nation has fallen.”

“House Democrats just refused to recognize Republican veterans on the House Floor to read the names of our fallen service members in Afghanistan. That’s how far our nation has fallen,” Steube tweeted.

Democrats Also Blocked Vote That Would Force Biden To Rescue Stranded Americans In Afghanistan

To date, 40 Republicans have called for president Biden to resign over his poor handling of exiting Afghanistan including leaving some Americans stranded there. 

Bill author Republican Rep. Mike Gallagher, a Marine veteran, said of the move, “House Democrats have had not one, but two opportunities to join House Republicans in supporting legislation to hold this administration accountable and do whatever is necessary to save lives. Both times, they declined to join our efforts to do so. This is unacceptable.”

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy also blasted Pelosi.

“Democrats just blocked a vote to require a plan from President Biden to bring Americans home and to account for all the military equipment he left behind,” McCarthy tweeted.

“Republicans will not stop until every American is home safely,” he added.
