Report: Rocket Attack Near U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan on Anniversary of 9/11

Just days after President Trump declared peace talks with the Taliban to be dead, a rocket exploded near the U.S. embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Witnesses reported a plume of smoke near the embassy mere hours into the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Employees reported hearing a loudspeaker message informing them that “an explosion caused by a rocket has occurred on compound.”

Officials at the Embassy as well as the nearby NATO mission have reported that there were no injuries to personnel as a result of the explosion.

This attack comes just one week after a pair of car bombings in Kabul in which the Taliban took credit, one of which killed an American soldier and led to peace talks being terminated.

Should this attack ultimately be determined to be at the hands of the Taliban, it would seem a clear response to the President calling off negotiations with the terror group over the war in Afghanistan.

This past weekend, Trump revealed that he was set to hold a “secret meeting” at Camp David with Taliban representatives, something that has drawn criticism from nearly every political corner. They were called off after the car bombings.

“They’re dead. They’re dead. As far as I’m concerned, they’re dead,” Trump declared to reporters who inquired about the negotiations.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Sunday warned the Taliban that they had overstepped their bounds.

“They forgot that America is always going to protect its interests,” he said. “The commander, the commander of Resolute Support and the NATO forces — they are still at this hard. We killed over a thousand Taliban just in the last 10 days.”

That number, should this rocket attack on the anniversary of 9/11 prove to be a Taliban response, will go much, much higher. These aren’t the days of placating our enemies like it was during the Obama administration.

You’re raising the ire of President Trump, the man whose unleashing of the American military led to them dropping a 21,000 lb. MOAB on ISIS militants in Afghanistan shortly after he took office, killing dozens and dozens of terrorists.
