Report: NYC Mayor Complains The City At ‘Breaking Point’ Due To Illegal Immigration

New York City (NYC) is reportedly reassessing its 'right to shelter' policies - a legal requirement to provide shelter to anyone who requests it - as illegal immigrants continue being shipped to their city by Republican governors.

New York City (NYC) is reportedly reassessing its ‘right to shelter’ policies – a legal requirement in the city – as illegal immigrants continue being shipped there by Republican governors.

The potential shift in policy comes as Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Arizona Governor Doug Ducey have sent thousands of illegal immigrants – allegedly all “asylum seekers” – via bus to the city.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) has complained repeatedly about illegal immigrants arriving in New York, despite being a “sanctuary city.”

“We expect thousands more to arrive every week going forward,” he said. “The city’s system is nearing its breaking point.”

The mayor’s office claims 11,000 illegal immigrants have arrived from Texas. The Border Patrol reports that in just July of this year, they encountered 200,000 crossers, or 6,500 per day, so you can imagine New York’s complaints about 11,000 aren’t flying with many.

NYC Reconsidering Their ‘Right to Shelter’ Laws

If 11,000 illegal immigrants sends a city, which if it were an independent nation would have the 10th largest economy in the world, into a spiral, what do they suppose nearly 2 million pouring into the United States will do to the country as a whole?

Brendan McGuire, the chief counsel to Mayor Adams, admits the city must reassess its ‘right to shelter’ practices amidst the influx.

“We are reassessing the city’s practices with respect to the right to shelter,” McGuire said, according to ABC News. “It is important — because we don’t exist in a vacuum – to reconsider the practices that the city developed that flow from the right to shelter.”

In July, a spokesman for Adams touted the city’s shelter policies.

“In New York City, we have a legal and moral mandate to provide shelter to everyone who needs it, and will continue to fulfill that mandate,” the spokesman said, pleading for financial relief from the federal government.

Denies They’re Reassessing

Adams though, suggested NYC would continue to find a way to integrate the illegal immigrants and keep their ‘right to shelter’ policies in place.

“Every asylum seeker that comes to New York will have shelter. By law, we’re required, and we’re going to do that,” Adams said.

“This goes beyond that. What you see today, we’re not stopping at the bare minimum of right to shelter. We’re going beyond that to make sure people have a right to a decent life here in our city,” he continued.

“And so we’re going to meet our challenge if it means opening more emergency shelters.”

Last week, however, a joint statement by the Legal Aid Society and the Coalition for the Homeless accuses the city of dozens of violations of the ‘right to shelter’ laws.

It was the second time Adams’ administration reportedly violated the law.

The mayor blames Abbott’s busloads of illegal immigrants for the problem, but homeless advocates accused Eric Adams of using that as a scapegoat for an ongoing affordable housing crisis in New York City.

  1. Yes, a “sanctuary city” of 9 million people will “break” because of a few thousand illegals.
Imagine what’s happening to the much smaller towns and cities on the border who are dealing with a MUCH larger number of illegals? Leftist hypocrisy is so large it could fill the Grand Canyon.

  2. Democrats just speak the pretty words, but when reality comes to their door, they shriek and scream and blame everyone else for their ridiculous policies. I’m glad their getting a dose of what others have had to deal with for years!

  3. Can’t walk the walk – don’t talk the talk – declare a national emergency like a little girl. I honestly think they all thought this was not their problem so spouting a load of crap sounded good until it arrived at their own backyard.

  4. Hey you getting what you wish for in 2018! You decided that I.C.E. could NOT ARRESTED ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS! So why you hollowed now? Suck it up buttercup! You people are showing how stupid you really where when you decide to become a SANCTUARY CITY AND STATE

  5. Cry all you want Adams, it’s your Party’s refusal to enforce the Immigration laws, passed by Congress and signed into law by Presidents of both Parties, that has brought this problem down on every American , Every American City and State. They need to secure the border( yes Biden finally agreed to allow some of the wall to be completed, just not where it’s needed the most.) If they cared as much about the American Citizens as they do about building a new Voter base, as people leave because of these type of policies, they wouldn’t need to be building a new base!

    1. Exactly! Why can’t they do what they’re being paid to do? Serve their citizens and protect our country. They seem to be doing the exact opposite. America Last, is Biden’s motto.

  6. with an estimated 5 MILLION illegal aliens entering the US since Biden’s ‘reign’ (probably not including many ‘getaway) – each state plus DC should accept a minimum of 100,000 each.
