Many have seen video of a man called Ray Epps urging Capitol Hill protesters to go into the Capitol building on January 6, 2021.

Many have also seen various excuses propped up as to why Epps hadn’t been even arrested, though he eventually was, and tried.

Now comes a recommendation for sentencing.

Epps Plead to a Misdemeanor

Epps claims he does not work any government agency, a position also claimed by the government: “Other than his four years in the Marines, Epps has never been a federal agent.”

But it’s easy to see why some would wonder after seeing the videos of his actions on January 6, 2021.

See for yourself, then ask why some are still insisting he didn’t say these things:

The Associated Press noted, “Epps, who worked as a roofer after serving four years as infantry in the U.S. Marine Corps, has vehemently denied ever working for the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Gordon said during Epps’ plea hearing in September that he was not a confidential source for the FBI ‘or any other law enforcement agency.”

The Independent reports:

Ray Epps, who is scheduled to be sentenced next Tuesday, pleaded guilty in September to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct on restricted grounds.

Epps, a onetime Donald Trump supporter from Arizona, became the focus of a conspiracy theory that he was an undercover government agent who incited the Capitol attack. Right-wing news outlets amplified the conspiracy theory and drove him into hiding after the Jan. 6 riot.

Epps, 62, filed a defamation lawsuit against Fox News Channel last year, saying the network was to blame for spreading the baseless claims that led to death threats and bullet casings in his yard.

Epps has said he left Capitol grounds when he saw people scaling walls and never actually went inside the building.

Prosecutors say Epps participated in a “a rugby scrum-like group effort” to push past a line of police officers.

That’s It?

“Even if Epps did not physically touch law enforcement officers or go inside of the building, he undoubtedly engaged in collective aggressive conduct,” they wrote in a court filing.

Six months seems like a slap on the wrist considering many other January 6 participants received years, decades, and more in prison.

The government and media seem to act “surprised” at the rise of conspiracy theories in an information vacuum. But for years now, the whole world has had access to the videos of Ray Epps, and the media and government are very literally telling Americans not to believe their lying eyes and ears.
