A recent Fox News poll indicates that when it comes to ‘preserving democracy,’ voters believe Republicans would actually do a better job, despite Democrats taking up the mantle of “preserving democracy” for the last few years.

The news comes as the House select committee investigating the events of the January 6 riot at the Capitol held multiple public hearings last month in which they claimed Trump supporters nearly ended democracy as we know it.

Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA), in an op-ed one year after the riot, wrote that conservatives had launched “a violent attack on our democracy.”

“Never, in our lifetimes, has the threat to our democracy been so grave,” he wrote.

Liz Cheney said that Trump and his supporters represent an “ongoing threat” and that democracy could yet “unravel.”

Republicans Better Suited to Preserve Democracy

In the Fox News poll, registered voters were asked which political party they think would do a better job on the “preservation of American democracy.”

Republicans, albeit by a very slim margin, beat out their Democrat counterparts.

By a 47-46% measure, the GOP was said to be the party best suited to protect the nation’s democratic values.

That means that despite non-stop messaging from the left – Democrats and the media – indicating Republicans are a threat to democracy, the American people aren’t buying it.

Not So Extreme

President Biden has spent the better part of the last few months trying to disparage Republicans not as ‘deplorables’ as Hillary Clinton once did, but as “Ultra MAGA.”

The President was speaking about the draft decision regarding Roe v. Wade when he initially introduced the phrase.

“What are the next things that are going to be attacked?” he asked. “Because this MAGA crowd is really the most extreme political organization that exists in American history.”

Biden, in that same speech, repeatedly branded Republicans as “Ultra MAGA.”

Which, according to this new poll, sounds like it means ‘people who want to preserve democracy.’

Republicans also scored higher when it came to the question of which party was better suited to deal with foreign policy, crime, inflation and higher prices, and border security.

In fact, they ran away in those categories.

Democrats and Republicans tied on the matter of gun policy while Democrats led by small margins on the pandemic, election integrity, voting rights, and abortion.

Democrats scored a large victory when it comes to climate change.
