Pete Buttigieg Says He Has More Traditional Views on Marriage Than Donald Trump

South Bend, Indiana Mayor and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg appeared on MSNBC Saturday to say he would love to debate Donald Trump on which one of them holds more traditional views on marriage.

Buttigieg, who is openly gay, said:

“My emotions about this president is not what’s going to matter most. I’m not interested in expressing my anger about him as much as I am in defeating and ending this presidency. If we want to have a debate or fight over any number of things from the difference between how I approach service and the way he did. The fact that I was packing my bags for Afghanistan, as he was working on the seventh season of Celebrity Apprentice. We could have that fight. Or if somebody who wants to raise the question of which one of us has the more traditional attitude on marriage we can have that fight.”

Buttigieg has been one of the more interesting names discussed in the 2020 race. Talk host Chelsea Handler even went so far as to say that he was the Democrats’ “answer” to Trump.

“Well, listen, if Donald Trump was the result of electing a black man and the result of Barack Obama, then we need to go back around and get somebody like Pete Buttigieg,” Handler said last month as reported by The Political Insider. “I saw his speech earlier today. That’s inspirational. That’s aspirational.”

“It’s everything that should be the answer to a man like Donald Trump,” Handler added.

It’s not hard to imagine the rest of liberal Hollywood lining up behind Handler to support Buttigieg, particularly if Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Beto O’Rourke or some of the other farther left 2020 Democrats begin to flounder.

And then maybe we would see a debate between Pete Buttigieg and Donald Trump on who has more traditional views on marriage.

We’ll bring the popcorn.
