Yeonmi Park is a North Korean defector and human rights activist who fled the authoritarian country in 2007, who would later attend U.S. universities.

Her verdict? Park says the woke culture that permeates elite American universities are more “nuts” than the totalitarian education in her country of birth.

Park: ‘They Are Forcing You To Think The Way They Want You To Think’

After Park escaped North Korea to China, she then went to South Korea in 2009.

Park would later end up attending Barnard College in New York City in 2014 and later transferred to Columbia University in 2016.

In her memoir, “In Order to Live” released in 2015, Park gave an honest account of what it was like fleeing North Korea and eventually coming to the United States.

She described what her experience with higher learning in the U.S. was like.

“I expected that I was paying this fortune, all this time and energy, to learn how to think. But they are forcing you to think the way they want you to think,” Park told Fox News on Monday.

“I realized, wow, this is insane,” Park said. “I thought America was different but I saw so many similarities to what I saw in North Korea that I started worrying.”

Park said she was confused by the intense focus most at the universities had on gender issues and policing of preferred pronouns..

Park: ‘Even North Korea Is Not This Nuts’

“English is my third language,” Park explained. “I learned it as an adult.”

“I sometimes still say ‘he’ or ‘she’ by mistake, and now they are going to ask me to call them ‘they’?” Park explained. “How the heck do I incorporate that into my sentences?”

“It was chaos,” Park explained. “It felt like the regression in civilization.”

Park then said, “Even North Korea is not this nuts. North Korea was pretty crazy, but not this crazy.”

Park believes that today’s hyper-woke educational environment is preventing students from developing the ability to think for themselves.

Park: ‘People See Things But They’ve Just Completely Lost The Ability To Think Critically’

Park said, “In North Korea I literally believed that my Dear Leader [Kim Jong-un] was starving.”

“He’s the fattest guy; how can anyone believe that?” she continued. “And then somebody showed me a photo and said, ‘Look at him, he’s the fattest guy. Other people are all thin.’ And I was like, ‘Oh my God, why did I not notice that he was fat?’”

“Because I never learned how to think critically,” Park explained.

She then said that the U.S. is adopting some of these same destructive mindsets.

“That is what is happening in America,” Park added. “People see things but they’ve just completely lost the ability to think critically.”
