Netanyahu Vows to Name Israeli Town After Trump

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said he will name a town on the Golan Heights after President Trump, a thank you for recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the area.

President Trump in March declared that “Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights is critical to the security of Israel and the stability of the entire Middle East.”

“My administration will always stand in solidarity with our Jewish brothers and sisters,” Trump said, “and we will always stand strong with our cherished friend and partner, the state of Israel.”

Trump Town

On Tuesday, Netanyahu toured the area with his family and praised Trump for being such a staunch ally of his nation.

“I am here with my family and many citizens of Israel at the foot of the Golan Heights, happy with the joy of the holiday and our beautiful country,” Netanyahu announced in a video post. “And there is more joy – a few weeks ago I brought President Trump’s official recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights forever.”

“There is a need to express our appreciation by calling a community or neighborhood on the Golan Heights after Donald Trump,” Netanyahu added. “I will bring that to the government soon.”

Netanyahu suggested that the community be dubbed Kiryat Trump, which translates to “Trump Town” in English.

Named Jerusalem the Capital

The kind gesture also comes after in 2017, President Trump announced that he recognized Jerusalem as the Israeli capital. He followed that up by officially opening the U.S. Embassy there.

It was the fulfillment of a campaign promise to our allies that presidents before him failed to achieve.

Not long thereafter, pro-Trump signs started appearing on city streets. Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz announced that a new high-speed rail station being built near the Western Wall would be named in honor of President Trump.

After Netanyahu’s recent hard-fought election victory, the President suggested peace in the region could be achieved because of him.

“Everybody said you can’t have peace in the Middle East with Israel and the Palestinians. I think we have a chance,” Trump said. “I think we now have a better chance with Bibi having won.”
