An NBC reporter claimed voter identification laws disproportionately impact trans people, establishing yet another sad excuse for why liberals oppose this method of ensuring election integrity.

The reporter in question, Jo Yurcaba, said voter ID laws were hurting transgender voters and even managed to find two people to prove the point.

“Voter ID laws disproportionately impact trans people because trans people are more likely to have IDs without the name that they go by and the gender marker that reflects how they present,” Yurcaba said.

“Research shows just over 200,000 eligible trans voters in 31 states that conduct their elections mostly in person and require or request ID at the polls don’t have IDs that reflect their gender identity and the names they go by.”

Voter ID Discriminates Against Trans People

Really? You mean you can’t just make up information about yourself on an identifying document?

Surely nobody would mind if I change the height on my driver’s license to 6′ 10″ and change the date of birth to make it seem like I’m 28 again, right?

Why even bother adding an image at this point? How’s about a sticker of a unicorn?

One of the individuals Yurcaba presents as being discriminated against is ‘Henry,’ a biological female who claimed poll workers gave extra scrutiny because she was “presenting as masculine” but had an ID card with an ‘F’ on it for female.

“[Henry said] it’s dangerous for trans people due both to the wave of anti-trans legislation we have seen, but also in states like Tennessee where you have seen five anti-trans bills become law last year,” Yurcaba reported.

“And so, those combination of the two make that kind of thing at the polls dangerous for trans voters.”

It’s unclear what kind of danger Henry was in by having a misgendered driver’s license, but we’re going to guess the made-up name she was using was the likely source of the problem, not the gender listed.

An Outcry on Social Media

As you might imagine, conservatives on social media weren’t very receptive to the NBC reporter claiming voter ID is discriminatory towards trans people.

One user asked why it was such a big deal to use one’s legal name instead of the one they identify with by choice. You know, like anybody with a nickname must do.

Do they think Snoop Dogg’s license reads ‘Snoop Dogg’ on it, or does it say Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.?

Others pointed out that this comes on the heels of a pandemic where people were forced to produce a vaccine card or QR code on an app showing they’re vaccinated just to be able to eat out.

Former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli chimed in suggesting that identifying people accurately is more a concern than placating people’s mental health issues.
