Kayleigh McEnany Debunks Claims That Trump Downplayed COVID

McEnany

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany defended President Donald Trump over claims he downplayed the coronavirus despite the fact that he said it was “deadly.”

Woodward Claims Trump Deliberately Downplayed Covid

The claims come from a new book by journalist Bob Woodward, who recorded a number of interviews with President Trump between December last year and July. In the recordings, President Trump said on March 19th that he “wanted to always play it down” to prevent creating a “panic” in the American population.

The mainstream media has then lept on the fact that he reportedly told Woodward in a Feb. 7 call that coronavirus is “also more deadly than even your strenuous flu… this is deadly stuff.”

“It’s Important To Express Calm”

In a press briefing at the White House on Wednesday, McEnany stood up for President Trump against the coronavirus accusations.

“When you are facing insurmountable challenges, it is important to express confidence, it is important to express calm,” she told reporters.

“He makes clear that he doesn’t want to see chaos, by the way, which is the second part of the quote which you failed to read,” she added, addressing one of them in the room who had partially read some of the quote reported in the Washington Post:

“The president just days after having this discussion with Bob Woodward, said this from this podium, on March 30, he said, ‘I do want them to stay calm, we are doing a great job, if you look at the individual statements they are all true, stay calm, it will go away but it’s important to stay calm,'” McEnany continued. “So this president does what leaders do – good leaders – it’s stay calm and resolute at a time when you face an insurmountable challenge.”

Even Dr Fauci Is Backing The President!

Dr Fauci also said that President Trump never lied or made any “gross distortion” about the coronavirus to the public. Referring to Trump’s coronavirus press briefings earlier this year, Fauci said, “I don’t think he said much different than what we said [to him] when we were in the Oval Office.”

With even Dr Fauci backing the President up, its pretty clear that Woodward and WaPo are just pumping all this out to once again make President Trump look bad. If this was such a key piece of information, why didn’t Woodward release these tapes at the time?
