Attorney General Jeff Sessions Blasts Democrat Senator Over Innuendo

Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Democrat Senator Ron Wyden engaged in a heated exchange during a Senate hearing when questioning led to secret “matters” and “innuendo” that had been leaked to explain Sessions’s recusal from the probe into Russian election interference in the 2016 election.

Wyden pressed for more details on exactly why Sessions recused himself from the investigation, referring to comments made during former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony.

“Mr. Comey said that there were matters with respect to the recusal that were problematic and that he couldn’t talk about them,” Wyden said. “What are they?”

Sessions’s friendly demeanor disappeared almost immediately.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Sen. Ron Wyden engaged in a heated exchange over Sessions’ recusal from the Russia investigation.

Wyden (D-Ore.) appeared to test Sessions’ friendly composure during his testimony when he grilled him about alleged secret “matters” that compromised his involvement in the probe.

“What are they?” Wyden asked.

“Why don’t you tell me?” Sessions told him. “There are none, Senator Wyden.”

“This is a secret innuendo being leaked out there about me and I don’t appreciate it,” Sessions continued. “I’ve tried to give my best and truthful answers to any committee I’ve appeared before.”

“People are suggesting through innuendo that I have not been honest about matters and I’ve tried to be honest,” he said.

The Attorney General also insisted that he stepped back from the Russia probe only because of a Justice Department regulation that says employees “should not participate in investigations of a campaign if they have served as a campaign adviser.”

There was not another “secret” reason.
