Wasserman Schultz IT Aide Imran Awan Arrested Trying to Flee the Country

A top IT aide for former DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz has been arrested trying to flee the country after wiring nearly $300,000 to Pakistan from a House Office building.

Imran Awan was picked up at Dulles airport as federal officials said he was “trying to leave the country.”

Awan was arrested and charged with bank fraud. He has been arraigned and forced to surrender his passport.

A House IT staffer at the center of a congressional computer equipment scandal has been arrested by federal officials and charged with bank fraud, Fox News has learned.

Fox News is told officers and agents from the U.S. Capitol Police, the FBI and Customs and Border Protection were involved in the arrest of Imran Awan at Dulles International Airport.

Awan, 37, of Virginia, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to one count of bank fraud during his arraignment in federal court in Washington, D.C. He was released but will have to wear a GPS monitor and abide by a curfew.

Awan also was ordered to turn over all his passports. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 21.

The Daily Caller obtained an affidavit which alleged in part that Awan had processed, “an international wire transfer request form” that “was submitted [at the Congressional Federal Credit Union] at the Longworth House Office Building in the District of Columbia, in the amount of $283,000.00, to two individuals in Faisalabad, Pakistan.”

Let’s read that again – He wired hundreds of thousands of dollars from a House office to Pakistan.

Remarkably, despite many months of ongoing investigations into Awan and his brothers for a breach of congressional computers, a probe that led the Democrat staffers to be locked out of House networks, he is still on the payroll under Wasserman Schultz.

As we reported in March, Awan had access to Wasserman Schultz’s iPad user name and password, and by extension had access to her DNC emails.

You know, the emails that proved she was cheating in the Democrat primary to help Hillary Clinton and hurt Bernie Sanders.

The FBI earlier this week seized smashed computer hard drives from Awan’s home, drives that the Democrat aide tried desperately to get back.

Politico reported that Wasserman Schultz is “said to have a friendly personal relationship with Awan and his wife.”

The wife, Hina Alvi, who also was on the House payroll, withdrew her children from school and left the country in March with a bag full of money – over $12,000 – according to the affidavit.

Looks like Debbie has some explaining to do as this scandal is now breaking wide open.

Not only that, but she still has to answer for why she actually threatened the head of U.S. Capitol Police for seizing her House office’s computers. Wasserman Schultz told Police Chief Matthew R. Verderosa back in May: “I think you’re violating the rules when you conduct your business that way and you should expect that there will be consequences.”

Now that seems suspicious! With this latest arrest, it looks like the Trump Administration better look more closely into this scandal!
