Former McCain Advisor Nicolle Wallace Apologizes After Claiming Trump ‘Talking About Exterminating Latinos’

Nicolle Wallace, current MSNBC host and one-time advisor to John McCain’s presidential campaign, apologized Tuesday evening for claiming Donald Trump is “talking about exterminating Latinos.”

The controversial remarks came about during a panel discussion in which USA Today opinion columnist Raul Reyes criticized the President for referring to an invasion of illegal immigrants as an “infestation.”

“What do you do with an infestation? With an infestation, the natural conclusion is to attempt an extermination,” Reyes said.

Or you can simply try to keep them out of your house. There’s that too.

“President Obama used the power of the presidency to try to pass comprehensive immigration reform, with the Latino community, Latino leaders, at the table,” Wallace responded. “You now have a president, as you said, talking about exterminating Latinos.”

Faux Apologies

Wallace took to social media to issue an apology after an outcry over the comments. Not the sincere kind of apology you’d expect from a person with integrity but rather, the kind where you quantify it by saying ‘yea, but Trump’s still terrible and forced me to say these things.’

It was simply a case of her ‘misspeaking,’ Wallace said, and the claim that Trump is trying to exterminate Latinos was “unintentional.”

By contrast, she falsely claimed, “Trump’s constant assault on people of color … is intentional and constant.”

Part of a Pattern

Hard to claim ‘whoopsy, my bad’ when you have a history of incendiary comments against the President.

This past May, she referred to Trump as a “grievance-obsessed dictator-lover” during a trip to Japan in which he discussed relations with North Korea.

“You can take the grievance-obsessed, dictator-loving President out of America, but you can’t take the grievance-obsessed, dictator lover out of the American President,” she said.

In the last few weeks, she’s claimed Trump might act like a dictator and start throwing reporters in jail while warning that the President’s criticism of the ‘Squad’ could lead to violence.

“Do you believe he’d have blood on his hands if there were a racially-inspired attack in this country?” she asked her panel.

In regards to Wallace and Reyes assertions that Trump is dehumanizing illegal aliens by referring to them as an “infestation,” it seems relevant to note that the former McCain advisor once claimed the administration did “not appear to be human beings.”

“There’s no capacity for humanity, these do not appear to be human beings,” expressed Wallace.

Huh. By your rules, dehumanizing them with words almost sounds like you’re calling for their extermination.

Wallace was recently highlighted by the Los Angeles Times as one of five female anchors described as “The Women Warriors of NBC.”
