Former Capitol Police Chief Contradicts Pelosi’s Top Investigator, Says Officers Were Not ‘Complicit’ In Riot

capitol police chief complicit

On Tuesday, former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund testified before the Senate, and said during his hearing that Capitol Police leadership was “absolutely not” complicit in the January 6 attack on Capitol Hill.

This account conflicted with that of Retired Army Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré, who suggested offers were complicit.

Honoré has been chosen by Nancy Pelosi to lead an investigation into the Capitol riot, and his left-wing rhetoric and promotion of conspiracy theories has come under scrutiny.

Republicans Accuse Honoré Of History Of Far-Left Statements

Honoré was accused by Republicans of having a history of partisan statements, including a since-deleted tweet about Republican Senator Josh Hawley.

Honoré called Hawley a “little piece of s*** with his Yale law degree” and said that Hawley should be disbarred for challenging the elector college count.

Honoré also said Capitol Police were “complicit” in the January 6 attack.

Sen. Hawley asked Sund, “The general has said that the leadership of the Capitol Police … he’s criticized you for, and I’m quoting now, ‘the appearance of complicity’ during the attack, and also said that you were potentially, undertook complicit actions’ — those are his words — during the attack.”

Hawley pressed, “Mr. Sund, were you complicit in this attack on January 6?”

Sund responded “Absolutely not, sir. I’ve heard those comments as well, and I think it’s disrespectful to myself and to the members of the Capitol Police Department.”

Hawley shot back, “To allege that you — any of you — were complicit in this violent mob attack on this building I think is not only extremely disrespectful, it’s really quite shocking.”

“And this person [Honoré] has no business leading any security review relating to the events of January 6th,” Hawley finished.

Tucker Carlson Slammed Honoré

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson has blasted Honoré’s comments.

“I mean some of the statements that the General has made are just downright crazy,” Carlson said on his highly rated program. “It’s just unbelievable, and it shows that Nancy Pelosi isn’t interested in getting any facts.”

“She is interested in power and in amassing power and an excuse to keep holding power, including those thousands of troops who are still at the Capitol who are still there, treating it like an armed camp,” Carlson added.

Honoré has many critics in the GOP.

Republican Sen. Ron Johnson tweeted on Wednesday, “General Honoré is an extreme partisan and should be the LAST person to head up an investigation of what happened at the Capitol on Jan 6th.”
