Kanye West has been in the spotlight for very bad reasons of late, culminating with a bizarre interview in which he said he saw ‘good things’ in Adolf Hitler and posting a swastika on social media, prompting free speech champion Elon Musk to ban him from Twitter. Obama

I have no interest in sharing any of his bizarre trainwreck rants and anti-semitic tropes here.

But with leftists in an uproar over the fact that former President Donald Trump hosted a business dinner with West, we thought it relevant to note that Kanye was once a darling of the Democrat Party.

As such, we offer this flashback of West performing at a DNC fundraiser, singing a few of his hits at Barack Obama’s inaugural ball, and even seeing the former Democrat President joking about him becoming Speaker of the House.

Kanye West Performs at Obama’s Inaugural Ball

Kanye West performed at a “Be the Change” Youth Inaugural Ball for Barack Obama in 2009, even changing some of his lyrics in support of the newly elected President.

“It feels so good to be standing here … My mom would be so proud right now, to see her baby boy performing the #1 song in the country for our new African-American president,” West beamed at the time.

He slightly changed lyrics to the chorus of his hit, “Heartless,” to support the new Commander-in-Chief.

“In the night I hear them talk/ The greatest story ever told,” he sang. “Somewhere far along this road, a new soul: Obama …”

Performs at DNC Fundraiser

Kanye West, as recently as the year before Donald Trump won the presidential election, was performing at a DNC fundraiser to support the leftist cause.

“Kanye West gave San Francisco a very special performance that was originally believed to mark the debut of new material,” Complex Magazine reported at the time.

“To better serve the urgency of that fact, President Barack Obama was in attendance alongside 1,300 Democratic National Committee supporters,” they added.

Obama Jokes About Him Becoming House Speaker

Obama even joked about Kanye West becoming Speaker of the House.

“You may have heard about this. Kanye is thinking about running for Speaker of the House,” Obama joked prior to the DNC fundraiser.

“It couldn’t get any stranger.”

Obama would joke that “in case he’s (West) serious about” running for President in the future, he’d have to deal with “some strange characters who behave like they’re on a reality TV show.”

Wonder who he was referencing with that remark?

Obama wasn’t always in a joking mood when it comes to Kanye West.

He famously referred to the performer as a “jackass” in unscripted comments prior to an interview with CNBC’s John Harwood.

Obama was referencing the time Kanye interrupted Taylor Swift’s best female video award acceptance speech in 2009.

Elon Musk suspended West’s Twitter account after recently reinstating him, stating “he again violated our rule against incitement to violence.”

Trump has said his controversial dinner with Kanye was to offer business advice.

“Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, was asking me for advice concerning some of his difficulties,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social media platform.

He added West “should definitely not run for President,” a fact made much more obvious in recent days.
