Elton John Defends Ellen DeGeneres As He Praises Bush and Trump

When Ellen DeGeneres stood up for herself after the Left mob attacked her for attending an NFL game with former President George W. Bush, another famous celebrity and LGBT icon came to her defense.

Singer Elton John said he “admired” Ellen for defending her friendship with Bush and advocating for more kindness despite political differences.

‘I admire Ellen for standing up’

“I admire Ellen for standing up and saying what she said,” John told NPR. The openly gay singer said he agreed with DeGeneres’ call for more tolerance and even praised both Bush and current President Donald Trump for humanitarian efforts addressing HIV/AIDS around the world.

“Unfortunately, what our democracy has become now is that it’s not OK to have different opinions than yours and that is not healthy,” John said, as reported by Fox News. “George Bush has made a lot of mistakes. I made a lot of mistakes. Ellen DeGeneres has made a lot of mistakes,” he continued.

“Yes, there were [bad] decisions that he’s made, but that was made by Democratic presidents and Republican presidents. And I admire Ellen for standing up and saying what she did,” John added.

Praise for Bush and Trump’s Efforts to Battle Aids Globally

John praised Bush for starting the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, or PEPFAR, which is an $85 billion investment to target the HIV/AIDS epidemic in over 50 countries.

“PEPFAR came from the Republicans. People have to remember that,”  John said, noting that the initiative is “the most incredible thing a Republican president has done on a philanthropic level.”

John also appreciates Trump’s continuation of PEPFAR, though he might not agree with everything the President does.

“People need to come together,” John said.. “They need to respect people’s views on life. Except when it’s heresy, and I don’t think George Bush is that kind of guy.”

Ellen Stands Up

After the barrage of attacks from the Left for the apparent crime of sitting next to a Republican ex-president, DeGeneres laid it all out for her millions of viewers.

“Here’s the thing — I’m friends with George Bush. In fact, I’m friends with a lot of people who don’t share the same beliefs that I have,” the host said. “We’re all different, and I think we’ve forgotten that that’s okay, that we’re all different.”

“For instance, I wish people wouldn’t wear fur. I don’t like it, but I’m friends with people who wear fur,” DeGeneres said. “But just because I don’t agree with someone on everything, doesn’t mean that I’m not going to be friends with them. When I say be kind to one another, I don’t mean only the people that think the same way that you do.

“I mean be kind to everyone,” she added.
