Democrats have hunkered down, pretending to take the moral high ground over President Trump’s reversal of the Deferred Action for Child Arrivals (DACA) program.
Their own words, however, reveal the depth and breadth of their hypocrisy on the matter of illegal immigration.
Prominent party members have railed against the decision to rescind DACA. But it wasn’t too long ago that they themselves were immigration hawks. Or at least, they pretended to be. They were masquerading as lawmakers who actually cared about the rule of law.
Here are some side-by-side comparisons of Democrats’ attitudes towards illegal immigration then and now.
Chuck Schumer (2017):
“The human and economic toll of rescinding DACA will be far reaching and Democrats will do everything we can to prevent President Trump’s terribly wrong order from becoming reality.”
Chuck Schumer (2009):
“First, illegal immigration is wrong, and a primary goal of comprehensive immigration reform must be to dramatically curtail future illegal immigration.”
Hillary Clinton (2017):
“We’ve got to fight with everything we’ve got to defend DACA.”

Hillary Clinton (2003):
“We’ve got to do several things and I am, you know, adamantly against illegal immigrants. I made this exception basically on humanitarian grounds because of the individual story but certainly we’ve got to do more at our borders. And people have to stop employing illegal immigrants.”
Bill Clinton (2017):
“Today’s decision by the White House to terminate DACA — and that is effectively what it attempts to do — will crush their dreams and weaken the American Dream for the rest of us.”
“It’s wrong because it’s cruel to send these young people to places many of them have never lived and do not know.”
Bill Clinton (1995 State of the Union):
“All Americans, not only in the states most heavily affected, but in every place in this country are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country.”
“The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants. The public services they use impose burdens on our taxpayers.”
That right there might be the crème de la crème of hypocrisy. Not only does former President Bill Clinton go on to talk about securing the border and deporting illegals, but he uses the taboo phrase ‘illegal aliens’ repeatedly throughout his address.
While these Democrats seemed hawkish on illegal immigration through words, many high-profile party members also helped pass a law in 2006 that authorized the construction of a border wall that included lights, cameras, and sensors to enhance security.
In addition to then-senators Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Hillary Clinton, 64 House Democrats and 23 Senate Democrats voted for the bill.
It’s just more proof that the Democrats have lost all contact with their moral compass and are willing to speak or vote in whichever manner the political winds direct them.
