Cowboys Quarterback Dak Prescott Refuses to Join Anthem Protests

As a team that refers to itself as America’s team, it’s easy to either love or hate the Dallas Cowboys.

But you absolutely have to love their quarterback, Dak Prescott.

The football season begins this Thursday with a matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots. And while other NFL players continue to follow in the disgraceful footsteps of Colin Kaepernick, Prescott is refusing to take part in national anthem protests.

When asked whether or not he felt the need to participate in these protests, the Cowboys quarterback had four simple words – “No, not at all.”

“It’s just important for me to go out there, hand over my heart, represent our country and just be thankful and not take anything I’ve been given and my freedom for granted,” he told Yahoo! Sports.

It’s been over a year since Colin Kaepernick started his national anthem protest, but he’s now unemployed and there are plenty of NFL quarterbacks still standing.

Nearly every notable player in the NFL has been asked about their stance on Kaepernick’s protest and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is one of the latest to make his position clear.

“I mean, it’s bigger than I think some of us think,” Prescott told Yahoo Sports on Sunday. “It’s just important for me to go out there, hand over my heart, represent our country and just be thankful and not take anything I’ve been given and my freedom for granted.”

This isn’t the first time Prescott has received attention for doing something he simply considers to be the right thing. Last season, a video of him missing the garbage can on the sideline when trying to throw out his cup went viral. Why? Because instead of waiting for the cleaning crew to come through and pick it up, he got off the bench and picked it up himself.

Simple, but how many star athletes would do such a thing?

Meanwhile, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has also spoken out against national anthem protests.

“I just feel so strongly that the act of recognizing the flag is a salute to our country and all of the people that have sacrificed so that we can have the liberties we have,” he recently said.

“I feel very strongly that everyone should save that moment for the recognition of the flag in a positive way, so I like the way the Cowboys do it.”

Jones and Prescott are showing why they’re leaders on America’s team.

  1. I like to say “Hats Off!!!!!” to Dak Prescott. Shame the rest of these disgusting football players that don’t stand for the national anthem don’t feel the same way. Dak realizes that if it wasn’t for this country and our heroes, he would not be able to play football and be wealthy. Something these other disgusting players that don’t stand should think about.
Dak you are a role model that a lot of other players should follow, including Goodell. Hey Goodell, take notice you BUM!!!! Make it known you want to play in your league you will honor this country and its heroes. ITS DISGUSTING TO NOT STAND DURING THE ATHEM PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Well said Gordon & I wholeheartedly agree with you! Both Dak & Jones showed respect for our flag, country & those who have sacrificed for us all to have freedom. Kaepernick & others should follow their example since they live in America; otherwise if you’re not happy leave this country & see if you find a better one elsewhere!
