Coronavirus Fears Spread – Democrats Respond By Trying To Restrict Trump’s Travel Bans

In the midst of a coronavirus pandemic, House Democrats are actively pushing to end the President’s authority to implement new travel bans.

The No Ban Act is set to hit the House Floor Thursday.

“Muslim bans are not who we are as Americans,” Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA) said, falsely defining it as Muslim in nature.

Such bans “hurt families and hurt our national security, and we must stop this president from overextending his authority and banning people from entire countries simply because of their religion,” Chu, who introduced the bill, continued.

Did she forget that the ban was recently used for travel from China and now Europe?

The Ban Saved Lives

What could be more remarkably tone def than having Congress debate limiting the power of the President to implement travel bans that keep the American people safe? Especially at a time like this.

The President had the forethought to declare a public health emergency and impose travel restrictions from China – where the foreign virus originated – a move that saved lives.

He made the bold decision to suspend all travel from Europe to the United States for a period of time as a means to slow the impending spread of the coronavirus.

Now Democrats want to roll back his authority?

Still Want Open Borders

There is a deadly virus shutting down everyday life in America and Democrats still insist they want the borders and ports of entry wide open.

“This bill imposes limitations on the President’s authority to suspend or restrict aliens from entering the United States and terminates certain presidential actions implementing such restrictions,” a summary of the No Ban Act reads.

The Act does include an exception for responses to safety or public health issues, but some Republicans have linked the bill to the coronavirus, arguing that it would slow the President’s ability to respond to such threats.

“The president ought to be able to keep potential terrorists from coming into our country, but now with this outbreak of coronavirus, the president also needs to have all the tools available to limit people coming in from countries with a high propensity of coronavirus,” Rep. Steve Scalise stated. “You wouldn’t want legislation that would make it more difficult.”

Even with the exception, The President would have to “consult with Congress” and provide a “compelling government interest” in order to implement any travel bans.

When confronted with a scenario earlier this week, presidential candidate Bernie Sanders said that even if he “had to” he wouldn’t “close down the borders.”

If They Had Their Way, Things Would Be Much Worse

If Democrats had their way and the No Ban Act was in full effect, President Trump would have been unable to implement restrictions from China or Iran without going through a resistance-driven Congress.

The travel bans put in place by the President, according to Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, have had a positive effect.

“I believe we would be in a worse position,” Fauci replied when asked to assess if the current state of affairs would be better or worse without the travel bans.

He added that more travel restrictions should be considered.

“We will see more cases and things will get worse than they are right now,” Fauci explained. “How much worse they get will depend on our ability to do two things: To contain the influx of people who are infected coming from the outside and the ability to contain and mitigate within our own country.”

Democrats don’t want to ‘contain the influx,’ they want to expand it.
