Former FBI Director James Comey demanded an apology from critics, despite the release of an Inspector General report that excoriates him for violating department policies and accuses him of setting “a dangerous example.”
Comey’s defiance seems misguided and based on the fact that he managed to escape prosecution, similar to that of the woman he allowed to slip through without serving justice for similar violations, Hillary Clinton.
The report, issued Thursday, does not exonerate Comey in any way, shape, or form, despite his reaction suggesting otherwise.
Instead, the report is a scathing rebuke of a man who was – and should have been – fired as director of the bureau due to his ‘dangerous’ acts.

“We conclude that Comey’s retention, handling, and dissemination of certain Memos violated Department and FBI policies, and his FBI Employment Agreement,” the report introduction reads.
One memo, which contained official FBI information, was leaked to a friend with instructions to turn the material over to a reporter. It was given to Daniel Richman, a Columbia law professor, who subsequently shared some of the information with The New York Times.
The IG report states that Comey did so “in order to achieve a personally desired outcome.”
In other words, to take down President Trump by getting a special counsel appointed to investigate.

It goes on to suggest Comey “set a dangerous example for the over 35,000 current FBI employees,” stating that if any of those below him at the department followed his lead and “disclose[d] sensitive information in service of their own strongly held personal convictions, the FBI would be unable to dispatch its law enforcement duties properly.”
With all of that hanging over his head, Comey managed to cherry-pick one comment in the report that said he didn’t leak classified materials directly to the media and demanded an apology from his detractors.
DOJ IG “found no evidence that Comey or his attorneys released any of the classified information contained in any of the memos to members of the media.” I don’t need a public apology from those who defamed me, but a quick message with a “sorry we lied about you” would be nice.

Even CNN, came out and described the report on Comey’s actions as “very damning.”
Political correspondent Sara Murray said: “The report itself is still very damning for the former FBI director.”
“It points out that he even had these conversations with President Trump about how important it is to keep investigatory details secret, and to not share information with the press and then essentially says he was a hypocrite for turning around and doing the same thing himself,” she continued.
Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) said the report shows Comey is a “meathead” who should be ashamed of his actions.
“Mr. Comey – I believed this before the report came out, but now it’s confirmed,” Kennedy said. “He just cheapened the premier law enforcement agency in all of human history. He ought to hide his head in a bag. It’s just not right.”
CNN, Kennedy, and the bulk of a nation who actually reads the report agree. Yet, here Comey is, snidely demanding an apology for all those who doubted him.
Perhaps it shouldn’t be such a surprise. This is a man who’s own view of his self-worth has been askew for some time.
Michael Joyce, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee (RNC), blasted Democrats for using Comey as a means to get to Trump with false allegations of obstruction. His firing was warranted and this report hammers that point home.
“It’s time for Democrats and the media to stop pretending Comey has any credibility,” Joyce said. “Democrats who continue to cite his firing as a basis for obstruction need to explain why they are defending a man who violated the trust of the American people for personal gain.”
Nobody owes Comey an apology. If there’s anything that comes out of this report, Americans need to remember that Democrats used this man to try and take down a President they didn’t like.
Comey, and the Democrat party, are a national disgrace.
