California already acts likes its own country, defying its own laws and President Donald Trump at every turn, and now a movement to secede from the union is gaining steam once again.
The California Secretary of State’s Office announced Monday that a secession ballot proposal has been cleared to begin gathering signatures. If the proposal collects the 365,880 signatures required to qualify for a ballot, it would result in a special election in 2021 to ask California voters whether the state should become an independent country.
A Calexit plan to divorce California from the U.S. is getting a second chance. A proposed C.A. secession measure has been cleared to begin gathering needed signatures to qualify for the ballot. https://t.co/m13QVUDP16 pic.twitter.com/9bKuwo3AWm

Leaders of the movement have been crystal clear about their motivation to secede. According to Marcus Ruiz Evans, one of the leaders of the Yes California campaign, “Calexit is left — we are progressive, and that’s why we don’t like Trump.”
Isn’t that just like a liberal? Don’t like the president, secede the union. Could these people be more entitled?
Meanwhile, conservative residents of California have proposed splitting the state in three. The CAL 3 proposal has already acquired more than double the number of signatures required to be included on a ballot. Another proposal, called “New California,” wants to carve the state’s rural, conservative counties into a 51st state.
However, despite the relative ease to get items on the ballot in California, it seems unlikely that any of the movements would succeed, much less result in secession. “It would be ridiculous to secede from the union,” Seth Kaplowitz, a finance lecturer at San Diego State University, said. “The only person who would probably be happy about that is probably Donald Trump.”
On the contrary – there seems to be a lot of Americans who would be happy to see California go.
California’s Secretary of State has announced the ballot proposal for “Calexit” has been cleared.
Go ahead.
No more electoral college votes, no more military, & no more federal money.
Maybe we should build a border wall too.
The Democrats would never win the presidency again.

Can the rest of the country get signatures to separate from California? I think we can get those signatures faster then they can get signatures become an independent country #Calexit

If California secedes from the U.S. that would be the greatest thing to ever happen to this country. Get rid of this country’s tumor. #Calexit
