As Army sergeant Bowe Bergdahl pleaded guilty to desertion charges in military court Monday.
Bergdahl was thought to have been captured by Taliban forces in 2009, though it later became clear he intentionally left his post.
Six American soldiers – Clayton Bowen, Morris Walker, Kurt Curtiss, Darryn Andrews, Michael Murphrey, and Matthew Martine – died in the course of trying to rescue Bergdahl.

On Monday, Bergdahl arrived at Fort Bragg to plead guilty to desertion and misbehavior before the enemy charges, which could result in prison time, including the possibility of a life sentence.
“I left my observation post on my own,” he told the judge. “I understand leaving was against the law.”
The development leaves a tremendous black eye on the Obama Administration, who traded five high-ranking Taliban commanders in exchange for Bergdahl’s return in 2014.
In an ABC News interview last year, Bergdahl attempted to portray himself as the victim and found it offensive that he could be considered a traitor.
In short, the traitor is upset that you think he’s a traitor.
“You know, it’s just insulting frankly,” he said referring to accusations he abandoned his post. “It’s very insulting, the idea that they would think I did that.”

Bergdahl made repeated attempts to have his case dismissed on grounds that then presidential candidate Donald Trump had used” unlawful command influence” to sway opinion.
Trump had referred to Bergdahl as a “dirty, rotten, no good traitor.”
“Frankly, I would take that son of a b****, I’d fly him back and drop him right over the top,” Trump added at a campaign rally to raucous applause.
#Trump, who said he would bomb the sh** out of ISIS, also said he’d drop Bowe Bergdahl out of plane. https://t.co/tA540VsFxx #MOAB 😉

Bergdahl and his legal team repeatedly claimed a fair trial would be an impossibility based on Trump’s remarks.
“We may as well go back to kangaroo courts and lynch mobs that got what they wanted,” Bergdahl said. “The people who want to hang me, you’re never going to convince those people.”
Now, having pleaded guilty, those people angry that his actions led to the deaths of six Americans have been proven right.
The only thing insulting here, Mr. Bergdahl, is your attempt to insult the intelligence of those who recognized and pointed out your desertion.
Six Americans killed, five terrorists freed, and only two men to blame – Sergeant Bergdahl and President Obama.
